hi, has anyone used the shakespeare neptune reel? made a quick decision and bought it for 15 squid as my first multiplier and couldnt find anything about it

am sure it'll be fine mate, most equipmen when used properly is able to do the job it was made for, at the end of the day its a cheep reel and you cant expect it to perform the same as an expensive one but used properly i'm sure it will do the job, till you want a better one.

just went for practise cast on the football field and nested it got fustrated and cut the line up with my knife :red: but that was casting gently, casted harder for normal strength and no nests messed with the drag and stuff and didn't nest it anymore, cast a football field length so i was happy with it lol..... well chuffed that i can use it, such a rush feeling the line spin out at that speed and even though i've never cast a multiplier can't fault the reel for £15 :D, lost me weight like... 1ft in the ground with 15lb line wasn't that clever lol

they have problems with the clicker engaging when casting plus if you have the level line version the gears on that strip fairly easy, like most things you only get what you pay for

I bought one from Temple's of Whitley Bay as a spare when they first brought them out. I used it for one cast and it stopped working. I took it back to Temples and they sorted me out with a new one. I used it once and it stopped working. You can have it if you want it, it is lying in a box in the spare room where it has been for a long time lol. My mate got one before me, his was still working fine which was the reason I tried one.

I must say though I have bought a few Shakespear items over the years and that is the only one I have had problems with. You never know, they might have fixed the faults by now as it was quite a while ago when I bought mine.

Just read back through your thread

I would start using a shock leader too by the way, 10lb of line for every ounce of weight. Much better than killing either yourself or someone just along from you.

i used a shock but cut it off when i got pi**ed at the nest lol, was funny though went out with it, the catch did engage and cracked off my rig.... then brung the same rig in what i lost sometime later with 3 fishies all together lol before that i thought 2on pennel was mint...... and my first flattie (class fish) i think i must of got a good reel.... only thing about the reel is the handle..... too small for fast reeling... you know what i mean. when i get a 2-3lb fish is when i invest in a slosh30 for the cliffs lol
