What's in a shape chaps?

By that I mean all leads we buy follow the basic aerodynamic principles of line and shape IE bopedoes, torpedo. tear drop, ovals etc etc

An article in one of the angling mags recently did a comment type feature on the various types of lead shapes that "match anglers" use...and these came in all sorts of shapes and sizes...

Anyone know to what end the lead shape can affect the fishing? surely a lead is just a lead?

I was thinking that I'm basically still a novice n use a gripper for everything maybe a plain bomb shape if on rocks n sea not too bad

I get more distance with the pyramid shaped weights, i mostly use them on the beach, sometimes plain ones if there's not much surf. I get least distance with grippers, but use them in the river if the tide is pulling.

I fish mainly into rough ground and loose alot of of weights.. Recently I aqquired some large bolts with the nuts and plenty washers.. Have made a weight up using steelfixers wire wrapped around the end (to form the loop).. Weighed them and use correct amount of washers to get 6oz then tighten up with nut. As distance isnt as important in certain situations I reckon will work fine.. The sea claims them all in the end!

I think with rock fishing it wouldn't matter what shape it is if it get caught under or between a rock it's not coming back lol.I myself actually use spiders on the rocks my thoughts are once it hits the bottom it not going to roll about as much but that's maybe just me lol.
