fished the big beach on friday night and had a bit of sport with small whiting and codling on a two hook flapper with size 1 hooks on one rod and also had a bigger bait on a 2/0 pennel on another rod - I had a cracking little rattle on that rod, but didnt hook whatever it was, I'm 'imagining' it was a bass  (the knock was different to any Ive had before).

so went down again last night, fished 3 hours down.

started off with two sandeel lashed onto a 2/0 manta, on a 5 foot snood on a running ledger (bass tactics!). it was a flat sea with just a little bit of surf upto 1 foot so wasnt expecting much anyway. had a knock, and felt a wriggle when I was reeling in but then it went. when I got it reeled in, only the heads of the sandeel were left on the hook, the rest of them cleanly bitten off - probably whiting or could even be a crab, but again, im imaging it was 'that' bass!.

after a few more casts with nothing else on the sandeel I switched to lug and fished the white water close in and got a plump 32cm flounder before packing up at 10.

Keep at it mate and you'll get one. Mind that's coming from someone who's never had one but I don't bother with the beaches much. Always get the obligatory flounder when I do though.:D
