Shields Pier

Can any body tell me how long the pier is, walked it on sunday to the end and watched a club pulling in some nice fish but it seemed a long walk even longer if you are carrying all your gear as the wife refuses to carry anything

South Shields pier is 5,170ft in length (or for those who have been metricated, 1553m).

Construction started in 1854 (same as the North pier), and it was finally completed in 1895 (again - same as the North pier.)

Just as a comparison in length......the North pier is 2,952ft (or 888m long).


Lol @ Ell...........it certainly SEEMS that long when you\'re heading back down with no fish to show for an all nighter......lol

Interesting statistics there Tony, That makes Shields pier longer than Southport pier. Ours is 1211 yards long, was opened in 1861 and is the second longest pleasure pier in the country. Southend on Sea being the longest.

i went out on monday night
lasted till 9.20 then gave up
too windy and the reel wasnt very comfy in my hand
but i will be out this monday
