Hi lads and ladies, I was chatting to the Port of Tyne guy who opens the pier yesterday morning and he reckons it'll not be long before fishing is banned on the pier. He said they are sick and tired of picking up the constant rubbish left strewn across the pier and that there in talks to ban it.

He also said the worst rubbish is the piles of blood and guts from the mackerel along tops and bases of the walls is the worst, he said they wouldn't mind if it was over on the steps.

So just a thought next time you get on and there is a pile of beer bottles or other rubbish in the spot next to you, might be worth binning it before starting your session, I know I do. Or we may not have a pier to get on to fish in the very near future.

i know but you dont get many familys walking on the piers in winter so no complaints all it takes is a few complaints i would happily close the piers from april to september

i think they should ban fishing on the pier during the summer months only that will stop the chavs anyone caught on there should be given a on the spot fine and it be noted and passed on to the court system on none payment.

this gets brought up every now and then, the piers will definately be closed of soon, and they are a mess.
it`s a shame us lads who wan`t a good stock of bait, to use in winter, possibly on those same pier`s are going to miss out, because of the t*t`s who flock to them every summer when someone mentions mackeral can`t keep the place clean and tidy......!

that`s me.

Fishing is already prohibited on ss pier, enforcement is a different matter.

I was there today and talked to the watchie who said he's constantly picking sh**e up whether it be bottles, cans, dead mackie splattered all over, human feces etc. etc..

Ther was a couple of foreign guys walking off and one was carrying a full cb of mak, the cb split and there were mackie pouring out of it, his mate kept walking on but the other was keep trying to put the makie back in the cb but they kept falling back out through the split in the bag, I went over to the guy and gave him a bag to put the fish in (if i hadn't he'd still be there:D), when he eventually got them in he started walking on but left the old stinking bag plus an old crappy hat on the deck behind him, i pointed to the **** and then the bin but he proceeded to walk toward me and try and give me a mackie for helping him, how many ways is there of saying no:D

There was loads of funny things happening, one guy had a rod out over the seaward side and a one out the river side, he gets snagged up on one so lets some line out and puts the rod back in it's rest then tends to the other which is also snagged up, so he does the same with that one then goes back to the other only to find it still snagged up so down it goes and back to the other and so on:D

Good days entertainment and hooked into 3 mackie on the retrieve:D:D

I had five Mackerel on my bait rods yesterday evening at the 44. Had to move eventually as I was sick of them.
I moved down to the rail end for some peace. When the fella came down to lock the gates he had a bin liner full of rubbish, they must get sick of it.
He's a canny lad, spoke to me on the way up and down the pier, and waited a bit while I packed up to lock the gate.
Thanks again for that mate if you look in here.

I could not possibly agree to have the piers closed in summer, there is some good fishing to be enjoyed during this time.Anglers need to adopt a more responsible attitude when enjoying their sport.
