Is there a difference between a Shimano charter special TR 1000/2000 and a Shimano Triton charter special "made in Japan?"

Is there a difference between a Shimano charter special TR 1000/2000 and a Shimano Triton charter special "made in Japan?"

Possibly a quality issue, they say the early Japan ones were the best I now believe they are made in Malaysia. Rumours have it that the first ones from Malaysia were of poorer quality but I am sure that has been sorted out now. Abu went through the same. my shimanos river reels are the same made in malaysia and they are very good
