Shore ground baiting

Has anyone tried shore ground baiting with shirvy,(ruby dub) with any success? I've been out beach combing with wife and spotted some new fishing marks, well new to me anyway. One of them looks ideal to stake a hessian bag full of shirvy about 120 yards out then tie it to some large rocks and wait for tide to come in. My common sense tells me I'll attract every crab on the north east coast though

your probably right about the crabs but id bet it would attrack fish too, maybe try popping the bait off the bottom somehow? could just work
