7g(1/4oz) and the slug-go is 10.5g so thats 17.5g and my lure rod castin rating is 15-40g you might need a lighter rod mate to work and chuck the soft plastics properly

turned out to be a codlin of 35cms and put up a canny little fight on light geardont really appreciate them as their normally dragged in on heavy gear
he was lightly hooked and actually shook the hook when on land so a quick pic and returned the little fella

More so than hauling in 3 mackies in at a time on feathers with a spinner on the end that is, or even dragging a coley out of the depths of the north sea on heavy winter gear!- I'm not knocking the use of heavier winter tackle I use it loads myself.
Personally, I think you get a better adrenalin rush and sense of satisfaction when you land a fish this way (on light tackle) but thats just my personal view.

aye definately mate, not wat a was aiming for but a pleasent suprise anyway and quite powerful ont light gear, get out and have a go, a love mackerel fishing whether it be on a spinner or float but it gets ruined by a load of div's
and once you realise what species we have available and what we can target on lures when we put the time and effort in the last place al be spending my time will be on a jam packed pier with a load of numptys

Never tried for bass on this side yet !!!!! Back over in 3 weeks for a short spell so will give it a go. MOG bass tactics on the NE Coast ?????? Who knows

During the summer months I fish a 12ft 1,3/4lb TC Shakespeare specimen rod with an ABU Garcia salt water spinning reel loaded with 15lb mono. End tackle is a Sbirulino (similar to your Drennan controller float but in floating or sinking styles) with a 12ft flourocarbon leader and either a 6" holographic sandeel or a salt water fly. This outfit with a 30g sbirulino can cast the length of a football pitch on the Dragon at South Shields (100-110 yards?) I have found that cream coloured flies work well on the NE coast for bass (marabou has lots of movement and seems to be deadly in the larger fly sizes) and bright coloured weighted flies tend to take flounder (pink / orange shrimp style fly on the dropper with a large white clouser on the point is a killer). Anything shiny will attract mackerel.
I first fished this way several years ago at Terally Bay following the advice of the legend that is Mike Connor. Fishing the rocks to the right hand side of the bay I was broke off several times using 10lb mono. Switching to 15lb mono I started to connect with decent pollack almost every cast and best fish to date was a pollack at Whithorn which fell to a live launce freelined on this setup. Great fun!

Just got back from Shields Pier, Fished over high water inside of harbour (before the first gate) only for an hour 4-5pm, thats all the 'me time' I could manage today! stuck with the light tackle, controller float and holographic sandeel. The water was nice and clear and calm, unfortunatley blanked
but hey, Its another hour logged on the lures. 
There was loads down on the Pier, I'm sure I saw codseeker on the spinner next but one away from me???
didnt see anyone bag anything but I'm sure they would have been reeling them in on the wheel end.
It was nice to get out in the decent weather anyway. There was a decent surf running and if I'd had more time I may have have had a crack from the beach. May try again tomorrow.

Went down again this morning for first light and surprise surprise the bass didn't play ball. Managed a small coalie and a couple of sandeels though to keep me occupied.

Nice to see folk lure fishing on our NE coast. Catching and releasing a lot of bass over here on the Mull of Galloway. Cannot seem to find the time to write reports though,too busy enjoying retirement !!!!
