the smell usually gives the game away with meat and fish
if it stinks to high heaven best to bin it, a good fishmongers never stinks of fish as fresh fish has very little odour in comparison to to stuff thats left for a few days

If your fridge is cold enough it would keep for more than four days. The fresh fish in supermarkets is probs four days old when they get it in,they then give it a shelf life of about 3-4 days.

imo, cod is better a few days old, gut it straight away, fillet next day eat at least another day later as it firms up. Freshly caught cod falls to bits cooked same day not good...........Dave.
