Shrink tube

Sorry if it's a daft question but how would I go about changing the shrink tube on the butt of a rod. It's a bit tatty and could do with smartening up.

Many thanks for any advice:

How to get the old stuff off ?
Where to get new stuff ?
How to put it on right ?

Just nicked the end of mine with a stanley knife and it just peeled off
Used a heat gun to put it on easy peasy
Loads on ebay thats where I got mine from

Advice as previous.
However some shrink tube is glued on but still will peel off .
You can leave the old on and put new over the top.
You can get shrink tube off ebay, but I find it expensive, also ensure the length you purchase is long enough for what you want and the right diameter.
It has to be big enough unshrunk and small enough when shrunk.
A heat gun will shrink it down, start at one end, keep rotating the rod over the heat and work your way down the rod. You can use an electric hob holding the rod about 3" above and keep rotating until it shrinks.
Radio Spares and CPC also sell heat shrink and it can be a lot cheaper.

Have a look for mr shrink on Evilbay. Post free and cheap for diamond shrink in a range of colours and they also do the plain black textured shrink you get on century rods and you get 1.6m unlike most that only give you 1 to 1.5m. Cost me a tenner for 1.6 m of plain black textured in 30 mm for my Apollo

As others have said, just snip the end with scissors or Stanley knife then tear it off. Slide the new tube on, then heat it up, I use a black and decker paint stripper gun, takes seconds.

Have about 1 or 2 inches sticking out at the bottom of the butt, that bit will shrink down smaller, and you can then stuff it inside the butt.

Most of the tackle shops sell shrink tube, this stuff is good from veals

(And you get what you pay for, I've noticed there is a difference in quality depending on how much you spend, I bought some really cheap stuff, and it was really thick, so it didn't seem to shrink down tight enough, I ended up taking it off again and putting better stuff on).

Less chance of damage

Less chance of damage

I use boiling water pour it over the shrink tube when its on the rod, perfect every time

Totally agree...always use boiling water...except of electrical kit....It is so easy to burn the surface using a heat gun......hair dryer better !

mel....
