simple questions to help a novice

depends on your budget mate. my fisrt rod was a Shakesphere surfcast cost me £40 for the rod and real, my mate still fishes with it now, i've moved on to a VFM Sport from Terry Woods at Reelsports(theres another free ad Terry lol), in my humble opinion its a cracking rod and well worth more that the £120 quid pirce tag!. as for the reel, i like my multi but can see why you'd me put off, but i dont think id go back to fixed spool.

as for you line, i used 20lb with a 60lb shock leader for beaches and 30lb with a 60lb shock leader for rocks, and like i said before always use rotten bottoms on rough ground!

shockleader 10lb strenght to every ounce of weight so 6 ounce weight would recomend 60lb shockleader

Can someone please tell me how you cocktail mussel and rag?

I was told to put a rag on the hook head forst and then feed it over the hook, the knot and up the line just leaving the hook and barb free, if that's right how do you get 6 worms on a size 2/0 hook?
