Skate Fishing 6th & 7th Of Nov Scotland

Knew someone would catch a Monster before the season ended

Great report as always, nice to see some unusual species.

Well done

Jonny :)

Maybe Jason depends on work, one thing is for sure i will be wanting a crack at them again but will also put more effort into trying for some other species...skate and black mouth dogfish the targets this time...got both so spurs and thornbacks next time..along with 100lb+ skate of course :)

I also love the sport of fishing for 3-5lbers but you dont look back years later to come and say i caught a 4lber that day...for me i will never forget landing something that was 1 stone more than me and the fight you get was out this world.

I think you answered your own question in your thread...i want a 50lb conger?? why do you want a 50lb conger a 1lber not do? its all to do with what everyone likes and wants to catch, if a 1lber makes you happy and gives you sport, go fo it.

I go trout fishing and know i wont catch anything bigger than 4lb in the lakes i fish but i love it and keep going back as its what i like doing...whatever makes you happy fishing wise is all you should do and no one can say other wise...i see kids jumping around on the pier so happy with a 4" coalie and thats what its all about.

Don't get me wrong Rich , I fully understand why anglers want to catch enormous fish , I just wonder if I'm the only one that dosn't ??
I want to catch big fish, I want to catch little fish , I don't really care what size they are , I just don't fancy the idea of catching something that's bigger than me  .
I'd like to catch a tarpon , but I'd rather catch a 20lber than a 200lber , I watched Matt Hays "catch" an enormous great white , I couldn't see the point of hooking it and following it with the boat till they could touch the leader and say it was landed before cutting the wire and letting it swim off

Anyway , I didn't mean to detract from your outstanding trip after skate , they call Matt Hays golden balls for the amount of big fish he catches , I reckon you deserve the title as well , you really seem to be able to find them ;)

Anyone know of a good company for spare penn parts? the skate fishing sheered the handle off my penn 245 ld reel and could do with a new one ordered.

nope. caught one once by accident a little un, estimated between 90-100lb in loch sunart years ago

almost caused a riot when I whipped me knife out ready to cut it up for the pot! (was persuaded not to!)

I tend to follow the catch em kill em & eat em or leave em where they belong school of thought

carp angling.... WTF is that all about

:D:D:D:D We're all different I guess lol , I'm quite happy fishing catch and release , but It's not often I put a taker cod back , just when I've caught more than I can be bothered to fillet. A couple of cod and a half dozen mackerel make a right mess of my boat when I fillet them , dosn't bear thinking about what it would look like after filleting 3 0r 4 200lb skate. :D

penn themselves take ages to deliver parts my mate has been waiting 6 weeks for a part for his 525 would look elsewhere first

mainly looking for people that had a a good experiance from ordering parts as i have tried two companys fpr abu bits and i could have made the parts by the time they have arrive...Penn i already new was a shocker for spares so wont be going to them.

Well i have booked to go again so gives me some more traces to make since all the wreckings one done now, not expecting anywhere near as good of a trip as last time as that would take some beating but a thorny, small skate and a smoothhound of any size would make my 3 days away.

Anyway good trip away or bad trip away will update this with a catch report when i get back.

Tight lines and bad backs all round i hope :)
