Skate fishing again

Well i have been given the chance of going skate fishing again, feel i have unfinished buisness not with the skate as job done :) but couple of other species i failed to catch that are in the area...anyway back to the point.

I want to make my own rigs and that rather than get them from the skipper but finding it hard to find a site for a set up.

Anyone got any links for purchasing skate equipment or better still a site with pics or instructions for making your own skate rigs. I have 200lb mono and 150-200lb wire, but need crimps, hooks, sliders and a pattern to copy.

Canny and i love the next on that site, it brings back the memorys in the way the person has written it and the pain when the line goes slack and the tail cuts you off, i lost 2 big skate last time both after a canny long fight.

Richie, you should be able to purchase crimps, hooks, sliders etc at Fraziers at Gateshead.
I got a load of wire and crimps there earlier this year at very reasonable prices.

Been in they dont have the stuff i need, very limited for skate gear as no market for it...hook is almost the size of my hand. I get what i can and make a few, failing that i just hire a few rigs from the boat again you never lose any gear as its muddy bottom.

Looking forward to it again, taken my folk up this time to dig a few worms as never seen so many as up there.

Anyone seen one of these KIDNEY PADS shown in this pic for sale in the local or on the net anywhere? i dont seem to have much luck in finding one.

This was designed by god, with out one of these i would not try and tackle a skate again.

Cheers Keith its the Penn one i am after as tried one of the others but they have nothing like the support of that penn one i used.

Richy, I've come up with a cunning plan. I'm not going to use a pirk or a conventional lead weight. For me its going to be a rubber ball on the end of my line.

Joking aside if anyone has bad backs or is ever thinking of going skate or tope fishing get one of them Penn kidney belts, they just move all the stress into the right areas and make it so much easier when your being played by the fish.

I found one for sale £20 from spottybog tackle plus £5 p&p so going to order one today.

Would be a few good days out if we could arrange a NESA skate fishing weekend.......definatley something i would be interested in, but i would not no where to start in getting prices etc, or have the time to sort it out.

Any offers ???

I can pass the info on but only two boats in the area we go from for a total of 6 anglers (3 per boat). prices £300 ish for 2 days boating, B&B and fuel shared.

Hire the tackle and gear if your only going to do it once, cost £10 per set up then the gear you lose if any.
