just a quick question, do yous prefer ur cod in batter to be skinless n boneless or just plain fillets? i like mine skin on especially when ordering from a chippy, just so i know i am not getting pangus/river cobbler/basa/river catfish etc:)

The only fish that need to be skinned are woofers and Smoothhound, everything else the skin stays on. Bream and Bass get de-scaled, unless they are going on the barbie in which case the scales act as an insulator stopping the meat from getting burned...

how can you tell the difference between brown bread @ white bread? you call youself a fisherman?what a stupid reply imo.if you ask for skinless fish thats what you should get,as for boneless, think filleters do there very best job to remove in first place.rant over.

reg :o

CC - I was just going to say "when its in my gob" :D

I dont really mind, its just when I pay for my fish from a shop I always imagine it with no skin, no bones, plenty batter with plenty vinegar and salt.
Also on a nice summer day with gentle breeze on a peaceful beach...maybe in Staithes or somewhere like that

i honestly meant the taste ye boogah! i thought it was fairly obvious visually . i started the thread as i remembered many years ago when working in a chippy in south shields we received haddock instead of cod we realised when we saw the skin, now if it was skinless boneless i probably could not have told the difference , :)

sorry codatcher3000,must or read it wrong,ok skinless fish ok,honestly think its really us anglers would know if it was cod or not cod by colour @ flakes.dont suppose many joe publics would know this difference.in there eyes if its white fish it must be cod.ps,so ill take my 1st rant back sorry mate.

End product - a happy dad who cant fish at the moment due to shoulder surgery (skins on ;))
unless youve shaved you white beard off.

unless youve shaved you white beard off.

Unfortunately my natural facial hair is more of a ginger really
The white beard is shaving foam...and the cap is also a lie as I'm not really a captain
I'll change it when I catch that 16lb cod from Horden beach this December

most of the goodness is in the skin, although everyone else likes it skinned and boneless, which is the best way for young kids, think I will try the skin in batter sounds goood and I love the look of those two fish with fresh beetroot
