It's clearly been a funny start to the year when my first written report as Slinky Kates crew falls in June :o:D

Anywho to the day itself...

Met up at RQ at 0330 - yes there are two Half past Threes in the day :o

After all the usual checks and fuel up it was out beyond the piers and towards the horizon

First wrecks produced Coalies and Scotchies and while they weren't the prized species it was just nice to get yer line pulled :D

Todays weather was predicted with the usual unerring accuracy of XC Weather - lot's of North in the air produced a lazy swell while the east put a chop on...didn't stop the fish biting though!

Now I'll say this now...after 2 months of hotel living and with less than a handful of trips under my belt this year I am WAAAAY out of shape from a boating perspective...all the normal crew stuff is OK (ropes, fenders, the lock etc) but my sea legs and the stamina required to fish in a moderate sea to the Slinky Kate shuffle are completely out of kilter :D

However that can only be remedied by more trips :)

Back to the report and today was a day that proves that fishing isn't as easy that sometimes reading a catch report with the edited highlights makes it look to be.

We did some miles today and revisited wrecks at least twice over to get some fish in the box and quite often with the company of an other well known NESA boat ;)

So after 8 hours of angling we managed a box full of keepers with the best to 9lb and quite a few only just under that mark as well.

A few pics of the day:

(note no sunrise :()

Coalies! (and a very wild eyed Deck Hand!)

Myself looking nervous with my first "proper" fish...the drag wasn't set properly so the 8lb Cod that we eventually discovered it to be felt like a whale and kept stripping line...I was naturally reluctant to "call" it :D

And the the fish itself :)

For the catch and release police the image below is proof positive that NOTHING that goes in the box on Slinky Kate gets wasted - from my perspective my share will feed my 65 year old mother and her cronies for weeks to come as well as Mr & Mrs Wallsendo...if anyone wants a recipe or two drop me a PM ;)

This is the ever so slightly jaded deck hand of Slinky Kate (out of Royal Quays) signing off

Thanks for reading and as ever BIG BIG thanks to Norman for letting me be his crew ;):D

Cheers

Tony

Great report Tony and a couple of nice fish there. Certainly looked a bit chilly out there from your pics. We seem to be getting a different season every week recently.

Well done

Jonny :)

Good stuff Tony, i was a bit lazy with the camera, but did do one vid but nowt special. roll on the calm weather. :)

Great write-up Tony and well done Norman for finding the fish. Fishing has been hard recently hasn’t it? You wouldn’t think it’s not June looking at the catch returns and the photo’s.

A great report, it got me hooked from the start, and good photos.

Thanks Lads wish I was there
