Crew report again – Skipper in holiday mode seeing as he’s jetting off to much sunnier climes tomorrow
4am meet up in a blustery RQ…reports all week have been spot on with the forecast and the gusty winds were 100% accurate but at least they were in the west on the whole…nothing too alarming though that could put two hardened sea dogs such as we off that’s for sure!
So out we went with the thought that merely getting out to sea was the big bonus of the day…in search of those pan sized fish!
A stop off just off the piers saw action within the first minute because while Norman was still pottering around the cabin putting his coat on and deciding which rig to use - I was digging in!
Only a pan sizer but hey, who’s complaining? :exclam::question:
And again…and again all on the same spot…was this going to be a repeat of last week?
Actually no but what I will say about today is this – it was good honest fishing. We covered 25 miles never more than a mile off and we managed at least a few in every spot we stopped at…which included some “impulse” stops.
All pan sized codling with the best nudging 7lb but we never complain about our bounty on Slinky and nothing ever gets wasted. Lots of fish returned today and great to see the ecosystem healthy with tommies
The big thing for me and Norman at the minute is obviously the lures we spent all winter crafting and creating…and it is with HUGE satisfaction that we are now reaping the rewards after the effort and expense.
The stand out (and relative surprise) success has been the grubs – both little and large – these seem to be magical. Ordinarily we would never contemplate lobbing a hook over St Marys or rough ground without bait on but with these there seems no need!
I really can’t wait for the wrecks to kick off properly because it’ll be interesting to see how they all do when the North Sea finally wakes up from its long winter sleep (Spring run in June?? What is that all about??)
Few pics of the day:
Boom! 60 seconds later…

Grubbly Jubbly!!

Lots of these about today…

Some manky weather didn’t stop us catching!!!

These all came along at the same time…

I got told off last week by Gregg for not pulling my finger out in the filleting stakes so today I was given another lesson…last season I was let loose on puddlers and mackerel but these were real Cod!
My hands were trembling…do you know how much Cod is in the shops???
The master and the apprentice…our fillets for the day

Cheers for reading - enjoy your hols Norman!!!
