A catch report of a no report :)

Just a little too windy today to be comfortable ...........

After missing the past few weeks being away it was really desperation that led us to "give it a go" today ... :) that was the up side, the down side was that I was still suffering from an elbow problem (mental note - must ask Andy Murray how he copes with it and still plays tennis) .....
However, my mind was set, I'll catch, then swap rods with tony and he can haul in and claim the prizes ... that way the elbow gets a day off and tony gets double the catch rate win/win I thought.

We even discussed on the way up the river that today we would be looking for a double or two to "PUT BACK" on film .... expectations were high. :)

Great morning for light but as forecast the breeze was still persisting from the last few days, in fact by we got to the pier end the breeze had turned into a gust..... no, a gale !
Initial catch rate was high with tony into mackerel everywhere we went ... and BIG mackerel they were .....
myself, content with a casual day on the shads into only whiting .....

Out to one of our favourite wrecks and it was stuffed full of whiting (again) oh and mackerel of course for tony who, it seems, has adopted quite a taste for them.... watch out Mr Charlton someone else in on the mackerel trail now :) :)
Eventually I got the tell tale nod nod of cod and quickly asked tone for help to boat it ... :) ..... and a nice clean fish it was.
At this point in time we were beginning to struggle with the severe wind, not that it was too rough just never ending cutting into us and streaming line down the tide.
We tried a few wrecks but all were the same .... quiet,..... except for Mackerel Whiting oh , and Wind!
by about 11am we decided enough was enough we had had our fix, got out, got blown around, felt and smelt fish ... so decided to cut and run with a solitary codling of about 4lb ...... and loads of mackerel for various recipies mulling around in Tones mind :)

Maybe not many keepers, but still a good fresh day out that left us feeling, no problem this was the day the fish and the weather won and we lost, but there would always be other days.

Most definately the best sunrise of our fishing year to date ........

Never mind, there's always next week :) :) :)

Maybe not a catch report, but a report all the same ..... cheers

the instant the sun rose ............

Great report as usual...:) Thats the thing about your reports Norm, even if you have a not so good day, they are still a great read...:) I was looking at the trees in the garden getting a pounding with the wind, and thought about anyone out there getting the same.

Hope the Andy Murray gats better and you're Acing them Doubles again..:D

Like the sound track to the vid...very good...:)

Injured arm, poor catch reports, windy forecast and you still land a codling. 10 out of 10 for persistence Norman, you deserved to get a few extra fish.

Cracking Norman, the whiting and mackeral will do for me next weekend. When I left for work this time I thought it would be the end of the boat season so any more trips off with fish will be a huge bonus!

Graham.

not seen so many mackerel around at this time of year for a while graham ....... then again maybe I'm brainwashed into thinking it's possibly December due to lack of cod :) truth is it's middle of september and really big fish season :) ....... but "not" by the looks of it :)

see you back soon then :)
