Well yet another excellent day out,
Low tide at 7.00am so we started out at 6.00am with a view to fishing the tide up, to be honest we`d had the trip on, off on and off several times over the past couple of days due to the weather forcasts so in the end decided to get ready for it and go see on the day ..............
Luckily it weren`t so bad this morning although as we first peeked out the piers it was a bit lumpy.
Started out on the usual hard ground marks around the piers and expected to find "shady" but no sign of the lads, hope to hear from yous soon...
Didn`t pick up anything but scotchies here so decided to move out to the 3 mile marker wrecks (all the time watching the weather).
Dropped down into what looked like mackerel on the sounder and sure enough loads of em` ....... and a good size at that not small like they were last trip out.
Box full we set about the serious fishing, well we tried, but all to no avail not a bite, even on the freshest and bloodiest of mackerel baits.
(well done to Tony at this point for NOT groundbaiting, although he looked like he`d of been better if he did) .... well the sea was big (and the lager was wet last night
)
Tried a few wrecks but same story, not a bite so ended up heading for springs most productive mark ...... St Marys.
After a bit move around and waiting for the tide to rise the codling started to come aboard .................. therein lies another story ..... new methods (for us)
gave it a couple of hours then with the weather improving decided to go on a journey, all the way to Newbiggin ............ wow was that a good choice.... and again a few new tactics to boot, all will be revealed I`m sure shortly.
Tally for the day was 14 good codling but only to about 4lbd , a few others put back and the usual scotchies and mackerel .......... Great Day Tony mate.
ps Note for Frank Stein ... remember that gully at Newbiggin... well it`s still there
and it`s still full of fish
Anyway, not wanting to be a bore, here`s a few pics of the day (just to brighten up the post)
First, the obligitary catch pictures, Tony first them myself
Then , just in case you thought crewing on slinky kate was easy,
the crews main task on the way home ................ fish cleaning .....
And of course whilst I do technical things like switch the engine off ............
The crew boat cleaning
All in all another great day, with a few stories yet to tell and ..........
the end result ...... a number of fish and chip suppers in the offing

Cheers for reading
