well, it is just the 6th september ..... mid summer as we would believe ......

ok take a look at this first then read on ! :(

still a little rain don`t hurt anyone :)

Set off at a leisure time of 8.00am (tide low at 11.30am and fairly brisk)
we decided that the tide and wind would be in unison in the morning and in opposition by lunchtime so thought we`d give it a go over bottom and hope to maybe pick up some big ling at slack water ......

Not the case unfortunately, even though there's been a lot of ling recently this wasn`t to be the case today, it was codonly (isn't that someones name?).....

Tried off the piers (seen richie at the north pier) for mackerel and/or launce but all to no avail so , after 10mins or so it was off to the wrecks "mackereless" (in a slightly building sea).
Stopped off at the 3 mile line and eventually struck into some mackerel ... three at a time (ie three of us catching one at a time :) ) .... mind you they were rather large tigers .....

Then, as cabin boy stand in Keith (tony had other family duties today) and first mate Steve continued to search for bait fish I slipped on a favourite orange muppet and dug into the first cod of the day ... whoooo hoooo

Unfortunately it was not the start of things to come just a blip in our favour. we tried several wrecks and all to no avail until Keith decided to give us a lesson in "the use of the blue shad" :)

Two great takes from Keith showing us how to "shad" :)

What followed was miles and miles of travel between wrecks that are known to produce ..... but not today .....

The weather was not good to us with wind and rain alternating and then combining in some instanstances ..........

Still, we learnt a lesson (or were confirmed of the view) ......
This is fishing ... not catching ... today as has been the case in the past, was a good leveller ......... its not always easy :)

Many thanks to my crew for the day Keith and Steve

Just a couple of pics ... (video will be added to the next trip out)

My first .......

If it makes you feel any better Norman read my report lol

Still we both gave it a bash and it beats being in the hous eon a boring Sunday with nothing but talk shows on :)

Until Thursday or the weekend.

As a wise man so very wisely said , a bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

Cheers Norman for a great day ,and Keith can I borrow a shad or two :D.

I thought us geordies were supposed to be hard , not need coats and things to keep us warm  Makes me feel better about taking a brolly when I watch my lad playing football :D Sky news weather says this high pressure that's coming on Thursday "might" hang around for a few days and last over the weekend , let's hope they are right.

The turning point tony was when steve said "We'll see ! I (steve) got orange muppets with mackerel and Keith has an unbaited shad" ........

lol I laughed and said ... "no contest - orange muppet ......."
then keth smiled and struck into a cod :D:D:D game over :p
maybe not for every occasion, but they do work ..... :) oh , and the water was NOT clear !

0.6 drift onwards i like using them for, i dont often use the shads as dont like the hook size but used twin tails for about 9 years with ok results, find they better over rough ground than wrecks to be honest but one thing is for sure it is a new method of fishing thats fun :)

Is that Norman the orange skipper changing his spots twice in one season seam to remember a coment about bait fishing early on in year LOL:D
You'll get a name for yourself:o:D
