At last a day that we can happily report
Expectations leading up to today were muted I think is safe to say – anticipation more was how well our summer tans could be started off than how outstanding the fishing was going to turn out…after the reports of people putting boats up for sale etc etc etc :exclam:
There wasn’t even a “How many then Tone?” :red:
So we just got up and went…but I’m very glad we did!!!
Pre-trip talk was of rough ground and possible trip further north to Newbiggin followed by maybe a foray onto the wrecks just to see if life was worth bothering about…
So after handing over breakfast to the lads on Shady we steamed up to St Marys to set about our tans
Wey ya bugger there’s fish in the North Sea after all because they just kept coming and a coming…and all I might say on our very own Slinky lures!! (note I haven’t yet progressed to calling them merchandise…yet
)
The best by far were the ones specially created, and so called, for fishing at St Marys – little grub tail lures that were hooking them with bait or without…they have a magical tail action (I’m sure Norman has video somewhere in production)
Boats around us looked on as we hauled them in – putting back untold but still leaving plenty for the box
After a number of very productive hours we left the area with a box full and our thoughts turned to offshore…after all, we had done the hard work already – now was the time to have some fun!
After the grubs doing the business inshore we still had a raft of other shapes, sizes and colours to play with…my choice was the medium twin tail and Norman chose one his favourite shads
Boom! There’s fish on the wrecks boys…maybe not in numbers and maybe we were lucky but we kept adding to our already great tally over the 3 or 4 wrecks we visited before heading back inshore
NOTE: No mackerel
So into Souter…love/hate this spot as I have a habit of losing fish here
Lo and behold first 5 mins “Woop ya bug…aaah foomanshoe!”
…however we persevered and managed to boat a few more!
Finally at about 1130 we called it quits…more with the protracted filleting session in mind than the actual want to go back
…it was far too nice a day and I am sure if the energy levels had enabled us we could have managed to match our mornings catch without any problems :yltype:
Quite a few pics of the day but I make no apologies
0400ish at the Marina

Who's that in the distance?

Eeh hello there!!

Was great to be back at 'em and into the fish - cheers Norman as ever!!!
Until next time
Tony
