Well, as expected the wind was up today ... :(

Still it`s the Benneteau Boat Comp from Royal Quays, it`s a great leisurley comp with no entry fees and the boat rather than the anglers being the centre of attraction (of course I`d have it that way as well if I were in the game of selling boats).

Just Wallsendo and I today, (ya missed a good un steve) set out at a lazy 8.00am ish and headed for clean water. At 1 mile brown water, at 2 mile brown water, at 3 mile brown water aaarrrrg.
With the note from richie about there not being many mackerel about Tony set off to find out for himself and in 3 minutes flat had single handed beaten rich`s total of 9 for the day (even in the brown water)
It was however real hard going today the sea was big and the fish were not playing, well not playing as well as usual.
We fished several wrecks out in a line whilst looking for clean water with nothing but mackerel to show for it until we got to about 8 mile.
There in clean water we found a wreck that did hold fish, I struck into first a small codling then a better one of about 4 lbd, tony boated several small ling that we returned and one decent one we kept. Not a sign of anything of the scots variety today , maybe since steve was not aboard ..........
The most numerous catch of the day by far was whiting which after a short spell became a real pest as I personally found it impossible to get to the bottom without all hooks being taken by hungry whiting no matter what bait we used.
By now the tide had bottomed and turned (a much better time to fish), however the wind had gained momentum and just standing was becoming difficult. We decided then at about 13.30 is to make our way back in stopping off at a few wrecks on the way (calls on radio made it clear that inshore was even worse than offshore for both catches and the state of the sea).
We tried to make as straight a line as possible on the way in which as it happens took us over a few wrecks that I dont usually frequent so it was I suppose almost new territory .........................

Then it happened - for Tony, the feeling most of us have had at some time whilst fishing....... you think your caught on the bottom when ......... you manage to take line .... then again you thing your still caught but still you take line then the nod .............. whoooo hooooo you know it`s a good un.

Well , it was , nice one mate .... we tried to weigh it on board but the sea was sooooo big it was difficult, seemed to weigh a good 11lbd :) :) cracking fish, new PB and more to the point a first Double figure for Tony.

Back at the Marina for the weigh in it tipped 10.5 lbs on the official scales.

:) :) :) :)

just a couple of pics as it was difficult to take any today

mine first a nice 4lbd codling (have to show mine first cos after Tony`s it doesn`t look as good :) )

As for the comp, thanks to Amble Boat Company and Benneteau Boats for the organisation (and the skippers goodie bag :) )
As we left Slinky Kate was in the lead with Tony`s cod so I`m hopeful ......... unless there are any late returns with bigger fish :)

cheers

At least you got out Norman, i never bothered today when on the lash for the start of the footie season instead.

Got next week off work so if weathe rok will hit a few wrecks.

Nice fish Tony well done

:D

...T'was tricky today....there must have been millions of Whiting out there...I even kept a couple coz at one point it was looking like I wasn't going to catch anything else :o

Eventually switched to the Pirk when the drift died down a little and gladly it paid off :D

Cheers as ever Norman - hope Slinky comes in first coz of the Cod and she gets some new toys

Well done Norman you always seem to get the fish mate and of course a big well done to Tony ,nice one mate .

Big hopes for Slinky as she deserves the win ......

Come on Slinky ...... and the toon tomorrow :):):D:D

norman, did Tony win, has anybody got the result. Phoned royal quays at 2 o,clock when the weather started getting nastyish, was told comp had finished, so didnt bother coming down

Alan,
Due to the weather the comp ended early (as expected really), but still the official time of completion was 4.30 so not sure of final results. As we left at about 4.00 we were in the lead with Tonys 10.5lb cod and there was an 8lbd cod as second.

(ps Tony took your mackerel) :)

The full results were being saved for the presentation later tonight but I`m sure Dave Wood of Amble Boat Company will have details to hand
