They cast ok as standard reel m8 imo.

i took both brake blocks out of mine and it casts great the way it is .

mags are the way forward lol much easier to controll on a windy day

Personally I would leave it as it is. Cracking reel to cast without mags. As Phil says, you may get a bit more control in windy conditions but not worth defacing a good reel for the sake of this. If you want mag brakes, buy a mag reel. Also, I wouldn't buy a reel with a mag conversion on it and you probably will get more money for it in original condition if you sell it on. Just a few thoughts
