slosh 30 casting abilities

Strange question, seeing as that's not a realistic situation, whether on the field or on the shore.

You should be asking how far can a good caster cast with 5 oz lead, 20lb line and bait into a wind. OR how far can a field caster cast with a 5oz lead and 15lb line. My guess to the former would be 130-140 yards, and the latter 220-240.

far enough on rough ground to catch fish.

further out on the rough stuff, more chance of hanging up your gear and fish! lol

i have the slosh30 loaded with 35lb mono (low dia.) for rough stuff and the slosh20 loaded with 20lb (low dia) for fishing over the clean stuff ;)

i love the reels, a dream to use.

im no expert caster, but can get a bait out with a decent lob on both reels, using a conoflex enigma. i mostly use a 6oz lead.

hi bozjc,i agree you dont need to be throwing your gear silly distances over rough ground but i just wondered how far the 30 is capable of throwing a lead as it gives me a target to aim for,i am new to multipliers and can currently cast about 110yds,over cleaner ground i would like to cast nearer 150yds......would you say you can cast further with the 20 using the lighter line?

steve

both reels are of the same design, the 30 just holds more line, ideal for loading with heavy line for fishing the rough stuff ;)

casts with thicker 35lb dont go as far as the casts with the lighter line on the slosh20, bit its not a mega difference.

i normally go down to the harbour at blyth and cast across the river next to the lifeboat, park area.

i cant quite get it across the river, not sure how far that is, but thats were i go to bed in new line etc ;)

to get a few extra yards when on clean ground. try and use the smallest swivels and clipdown your baits. try and load the reel with a low diameter line, less resistance when casting.

i dont really no of any marks that you would struggle fishing with the distance you can cast :)

you can play about with your reel, adjusting the float and removing brakes etc.

i found with my abu that i get a better cast when i removed 2 of the 4 brakes that were fitted.

i know of a guy that has removed the brakes from his slosh20 and can chuck a bait out a really good distance.

hi bozjc, what type of abu have you got?are you casting further with the abu compared to the slosh?.....i avoided the cleaner ground distance reels as i read they were not tough enough to fish the rougher ground, that is the main reason i bought the slosh.

steve

my first multiplier was an abu 7000 syncro, it had level wind, but i removed it after a few sessions ;)

it can hit the distances that the slosh's can, but the disadvantage is that the retrieve is slower, i like the faster retrive of the slosh for getting my gear back over the rough stuff.

the abu does have a nifty setup, a bit like a bait runner for carp. i thinkk it was designed for bass fishing. allows the fish to run but without the reel being in free spool. strange setup but still works a treat. just cleaned her up as she was in the bottom of my box along with my slosh30, bit worse for wear now.

i got a codling on it on friday night :)

I spent alot of time over the summer casting on fields and on the sand, measuring out how far i was casting and can confidently hit the 150 yard mark with a plain lead and my slosh 20, but with my Okuma 30 i could never get much over 100 yards, the smaller reel with the lighter line lets the line peel of much smother and will give you extra distance, one thing to keep in mind though, once you put a bait on you'll lose distance!! like i said i can send a plain lead 150 yards but once its baited up i bet i never make it over 100 yards!.

Real fishing situation, baited up with 30lb line.. if you reach 150 yards plus your doing very well!

but if your question is, is the reel capable of this.. then yeah it sure is!

Plain lead and thin line on a field "tornament" style, the reel will easy hit 220 yards plus in right hands.

Damn fine reels for us shore anglers.... shame Diawa aint brought out a MAG Version of it :(

i use a sl3osh with 30lbs red ice, and if i'm lucky and do it right i can cast 90% of the line, i dunno how much line this is as the directions on the reel itself only go to 25 lbs - 220yds,
dunno how far this is coz i aint no mathsmatition but i'm pleased when it happens,

but then you gotta reel it all in again

i did cast along the beach and paced it out (1 long pace for a yard) and got to about 120 but me pacing and reeling ain't too syncronysed so was probs less, i've got a shakespeare thats about the size of the 20 (but no-where as quality as the slosh) and can cast further using 18lbs and leader, but don't fish with it off the rocks, therefore don't use it much.

Red ice 30lb
.50mm

capacity for a slosh 30 is 0.50 - 210 meters

so in yards thats 229.65 yards

so excluding the shock your casting out 90% of the line.

thats probally about 206 yards.....

BUT! thats excluding the excess line from the arc of your cast,

Not going to get in trajectories and gravity lol

Pretty good cast mate, I'd say 170 yards (from the cast off of line in the arc as i said)

I probally cast 60 yards lol but casting with a £15 12ft'er that won't compress to save its life is probally why lol... bends like peice of cotton in the wind lol

Got a white bite last time i was out, looked like the same bite as phil's 10lb'er.... unfortunately that isn't a exaggeration (spell check on that one)
