Cleaned 2 slosh 30s down over xmas cleaned the bearings with lighter fluid then put a little oil in them Daiwa oil that comes with the reels,When im casting i get birds nests all the time even with the brakes full on and the blocks are in them both!!Do i need thicker oil??

I use red rocket fuel on my sl30sh. Seems to give a good balance of speed and control, that stuff that Daiwa put in the box might as well be water!

if your local to me bring it down and ill have a look if you want. pm me and ill send my address. i wont be back on till tea time when i finish work

chip pan grease works a treat...:D

just joking, don't actually try that..

I use rocket fuel on my 535 but only use a drop or 2, seems to work fine

Stripped reels and used rocket fuel, used the reels tonight cast like a dream:red:
Thanks for the help

Rocket Fuel

Pleased you got your 'oil' sorted out.

But, ye knaa,'Rocket Fuel' and other twee names for lubricants are designed to catch anglers not fish, it's nowt but a 'marketing ploy'

Get yersell a small pot with a lid (a film container is ideal) and mix ordinary 3-in-one type oil with 'Switch Oil' and give it a shake....perfect.

After years of testing, I find that one tablespoon of each oil is ideal for me giving a 50-50 mix and, as I only use my multipliers in the Winter, I pull the bearings on all my reels and store them in 'the oil pot' over the game fishing months.

If you know a friendly electrician, he'll be able to get you a bottle of 'Switch Oil' for the price of a pint and you can experiment with various mixes 'till you find one to meet your own individual casting style and reels.

Mind you, don't be tempted to use switch oil on its own as it's not viscous enough to be an efficient lubricant for multipliers.

next to where the star drag is there is a knob for spool tension try tightening that

VERY BAD ADVICE, do not over tighten this cap, it is not there to slow down the reel, when setting reel up screw cap down until there is minimum sideways spool movement, and thats it.

Over tightening this cap can cause the spindle to bend.

Check out Neil Mackellows reel tuning here:-

oops sorry thats also what i should have said. i wasn't meaning screw it down too tight, my reason for what i said is that if mine is too loose the reel seems way too fast so i tighten mine like you say.

hi, can anyone advise me how far the slosh 30 will cast 6oz in skilled hands,i currentlly have mine loaded with 30lb mono and am throwing a 6oz lead a little over 100yds,with practice how far can i realistically hope to cast with this reel ?

steve

i rearly ever clean my slosh 30 (iv had lyk 2 year only cleand twice) jst sits in bottm ov box most ov the time so it cannot be that good for casting but i can still get over 120 id say with a 5oz n im not good caster.

hello stephen swann, glad to here you are hitting 12oyds,i can cast in the region of 130 with a cheap fs setup so i would like to do better with the slosh 30 and my 13ft abu conolon exodus, just wondered what would be a realistic target to aim for,i am new to multipliers so there must be room for improvement,i read that the slosh 20 can easily be tuned to cast 200yds with 20lb mono in good hands!
