Cant decide which one. Both seem very similar.Ive only ever used ABUs in the past.,Just fancy a change.I know most of you use all three.....Are they more difficult to control than the ABU,s or the same.Even thought about the 535 mag.
Any advice would be appreciated.

cant comment on the 535 mate but love me slosh's (got2) excellent retrieval rate, pull a tug boat in, cast well, easy to service etc can't fault them:)

Someone told me they dont have any brake blocks fitted & they are prone to overuns if your not carefull...Can the spool tension be increased or brake blocks be added to slow the spool down until im used to it.

Got to be the Penn for me, I had abu's first then sloshes for years but switched last year to a penn 525 and wouldn't go back to daiwa or abu, the build quality is a different league with the penn.

They don't come supplied with the brakes fitted, but are supplied with a couple of sets in the box (large & small). If you're buying from a shop, no doubt they can fit them for you. I'd start with the 2 larger ones until you get used to the reel, but the amount of braking you'll need will also depend on how heavy the line is that you load it with and how full you fill the spool.

I use the SLX30sha's which have a free floating spool and run a bit faster, loaded with 30lb Big Game & run them on one small block, and on the SLX20sha I use 20lb line & again one block.

Whatever you do, don't use the spool tension knob as a brake - you should always have a tiny bit of side to side movement. Tighten any more and you can knacker the spindle.

I got the slosh30 on the advice of the forum, hadn't realised the brake blocks weren't fitted and were still in the bottom of the box at first, oops. Been well impressed with it and ended up picking up a slosh20 the other week aswell. Can't fault them, both very smooth, quick retrieves and feel very well put together.

Got a 535 mag...great solid built reel and has the added comfort of mag control.

I've got a slosh 20 , ABU 7000 and 2 Penns (535 mag and 525)...rate them all highly - I would say I prefer the Penn reels as better casting reels out of all them although the slosh is also a fave for ease of use and it's a great price

Horses for courses to be honest mate

Got 2 slosh's 20 and 30 also an abu 7000 but no penn so i cant comment on how they compare. Only use the slosh and the abu is up for sale as it never sees the light of day.

If i had the money for the Penn i'd get it, i have a slosh20 and a 525 and i like them both but the penn is marginly better, but weather its better enough to justify the extra cost is debatable

As much as I like the sloshes, since the saltists came out they've taken a back seat! Same size spool as a slosh 30, but in a reel only marginally bigger than a 6500 with a better balance / gearbox arrangement making them easier to grip.

I also have a 535 mag which I originally bought as a back-up / alternative to the Daiwas, but I've never used it, so can't say how it performs, although I find the smaller 525's very good for mixed ground. I think the 535 might well find itself in the classifieds in the next couple of days!

535 mag for me. Great, easy to use reel, no birdsnests, and has the ability to pul virtually anything thru the kelp forests!

Got a slosh 20 as well which is fine on the beach, but do get the odd nest with it

I use a 10 year old 535 gs for rough ground. never had a problem with it. been dropped and pulled of the rod stand a few times ( by the tide not a fish :D) and has never broke... bomb proof.
I sometimes Use an abu 6500 mag elite for the beach but it's a pain to wind in (slow retrieve) so mostly use the 535 for that too, i can cast just as far with either reel

I have a pair of standard 535s that I have been using for a few years now and utterly love them. I have tried a slosh 30 but the gear casing is in an awkward spot that prevents me getting a good grip of the spool, and leaves me with a sore knuckle after a session.

The 535 also has a comfier handle. No need for the mag version though.

Both have super smooth drags that are easy to lock up when pulling for a snag. Both have a light spool that casts easily. The Penn doesn't get as tatty as quickly as the slosh. Both have a good ratchet. The slosh will probably be a bit cheaper as there are more of them adound than the 535's, and both are generally fairly safe second hand buys, so get in touch with the chap selling one above and go from there!

If you want to spend a bit more you really should go for the daiwa saltist; they are very nice reels.

thanks for your advice lads, seems like there both on par with each other.Looks like its down to which is the best deal {£}.Might even consider the penn mag if the price is right...
