Do i really need any of the brake blocks in? I have been using it without any, get the odd overrun every now and then but that's it. One thing though, i carnt seem to cast any further. For example, i can cast just b4 the middle of the river down the walkway how ever many yards that is. I use 30lb main with a leader and my rod is a 13' salt MX. I have also got a nasty habbit of a stiff arm when i cast.

Im thinkin it may be my casting technique?

Hi skott,
If you can control the reel without break blocks in then that should be fine. Try using a lighter line or a lower diameter line, as thick line can sometimes slow your casting down. Middle river sounds far enough though mate :)

I cast longer than the middle of the river is just a shorter cast for an angler fishing the other side of the river :D

larger diameter line will cut your casting distance down if you can get away with using lighter line with a shock leader you should improve your distance. Also you could if you havent already clean your bearings and use some lighter oil like rocket fuel.Or replace them for upgraded bearings if you do though make sure you put yorself some brake blocks in until you get used to it.

Cheers lads, had a play about before and moved my reel to the top of the butt and it feels more comfortable to cast. I could do with some new line soon anyway as im nearly out, so a lighter line may be ideal for the rivers and pier to cast owa the snags. Thanks for the heads up guys :D

ide use a thinner diamater line m8 i use f1 ultimute as it purr's off your spool

Slosh 30 aren't the best of casting reels. I use mine with 30lb straight through on the rocks and into the rough stuff where a short lob is all that is required. use my 525's for all other stuff.
