just seen the news and their on about banning smoking in prisons, don't know if this includes wacky baccy like:D

Is this wise though?

I wonder how prisoners can afford to smoke ?

I was also under the illusion prison was a place where you were punished and life's little luxuries were banned

Not necessarily. Prisoners I think couldn't be stopped from smoking with them being locked up 23 hours a day. There would be hell on if they did.

Has anybody considered the cost of this?Prisoners pay for their own tobacco products. Cost to taxpayer zero The taxpayer will be paying for the patches which cost around £10 per week for a course around 3 months. The prison population is around 88,000 and 80% smoke. I appreciate this is a rough estimate of around £10 million to the taxpayer. Is it worth it? Not in my opinion

solution to this would be that the screws and inmates sign up to a passive smoking disease disclaimer, if not then re-employ and transfer to an open air prison:D

Pmsl Banning smoking in communal areas in prisons is reasonable; banning it in cells is arguably justified; banning it in outside recreation areas seems merely vindictive. Should be very popular with the hangers and floggers.

Forgive me for asking but ' Who is in charge in prison ' ? Why should prisoners have their comforts ? It could be argued they gave up all their rights once put away. Isn't prison meant to be a horrible scary place to go ? A deterrent ? or is that just in other countries.

I thought it was a place to put wronging's away so they couldn't get at others whilst inside.

How they gonna fill a prison when materialism is no longer our religion? What do you think we got now in Britain? Just like America, private prisons Prisons for profit ;)

Materialism, which when boiled down is just a love for money, is the reason why many people are in prison. If we thought about it we'd realise that money is not worth what we think it is (certainly not worth committing crimes for)

prison

prison

t want every luxuary in nick as i might be there soon if she does not stop nagging i will murder her

They're banning it because of all the claims made by lags and screws putting in claims about passive smoking!! What's the cost of this to the tax payer? Agree with the idea of privatising them and make the criminals work to create a profit. Or even just actually make them like a prison and not a home from home, may make the *******s think twice before commiting crimes to be wrapped in cotton wool and be "rehabilitated"
