soft baits

i've only ever used the sandeel for spinning with in the summer, their deadly for pollock as for the other baits i've never tried them and personally i would'nt want to.you can't beat natural baits fresh or frozen.

To save money i used a gulp artificial worm on a two hook rig year or so back. Caught one whitie.
Best bait is squid, worm, etc so it gives off a scent-unless its a lure-such as a shad which a fish can see.
Steve you would be better off using a quids worth of mackeral cut up into small strips-take my word for it.
Mick.

Couple of seasons ago off Blyth pier the only thing catching was almost any bait but tipped with Gulp rag.
The guy gave me and my mate some and after a afternoon with nothing we caught.
But thats the only time i have used them,

The Ragworm is a killer when spun for Pollack or Bass,i use nowt else when fishing the West coast or Torness.
Also had Wrasse with it on the float.
No good as a static bottom bait though....

I don't think there designed to be cast out and left as a static bait, I think there more of a lure. After all you wouldnt cast a set of macky feathers out and just leave them would ya?

Gulp is a weird one, a couple of years ago I fished a comp in the Danish / Swedish straights, the baits were supplied but were allowed to use Gulp. The lugworm version actually outfished fresh lug on a spreader boom rig.

Not given it a fair try over here though.
