We had an unbelievable day wreck fishing yesterday. The weather was perfect with some good anglers booked onto a platinum trip. Lofty took the biggest estimated to be over 20lb by all who saw it.

Nice one Alan, and the weather looked as predicted ......... any mackerel on those wrecks yet, we tried just about 4 mile on Saturday but still no show .....

Nice one Alan ,as Norman said the weather predictions seem spot on so far this year on a couple of sites I use .

What do these Platinum trips involve ?

i am booked on a platinum on monday next week. Believe it is a very early start for a 14 hour trip out to the wrecks 60 miles off, alan only takes 6 anglers on the trip, steam out to the wrecks seldom fished at 20+ knots couple of drifts on each if nothing then off to the next one (just like norman), the only other boat to get out there and fish those wrecks is the chieftain and having been on both boats i know which option i prefer and at less than £10 an hour i believe gives you great value for money.

do you fancy it then.

Sounds good Jason however the season is well upon us now and Slinky Kate and her skipper are more than enough for me mate ,good luck with the trip though .

i can understand the need for the heavier gear as the wrecks fished do have a good stamp of fish and better chances of a double or trebble hook up. Having fished the chieftain on these wrecks i did see guys loose fish due to lighter rigs and shop bought rigs due to there being more than one large cod on the end tackle. when fishing out there i use a 20lb class greys long boat and a 20-30lb class abu suveron pro, both using rigs tied with 80lb rig body all tied at home with no shop bought rigs as i have more confidence in the knots i would also only fish with 2 flyers (snoods) above the jigger and not 5 or six which you do see on some charter boats.

most of the guys on the other saturday all had rods of around the same test.

Age old question but any plans on the grave yard trip again this year, granted i would have to set off an hour before yourself Norman but could be worth a bash this year, would not try it on my own..way to far out for a single boat but only fished it twice now (1 charter 1 private) and had mixed results but always fancie it every year lol

yeah rich I'd like to give it a go one day may two or three of us for safety just in case of breakdown etc.

I`ve not been there but as you said have heard it not always as good as it sounds, much like the wrecks we fish .........

always best to have tried before giving judgement, maybe aug/sept time.
