Sonik. Is it me or are they crap!!

You hear bad reports from most people about this rod, that rod, this reel etc
But a while back I bought a xtr sk3 rough ground beach.
Casting was crap so I put all my effort into it with the idea I was so sick of it the worst that could happen is a snap!
This didn't happen but it did split 1" down the joint, sonik were spot on no questions they replaced the whole rod,
Saturday I bought a xtr sk3 30-50lb class boat rod.
Got into a lump of kelp & snapped the rod clean in half. If I had a Fish of 10lb plus I reckon the same would happen

Everyone had told me story's of sonik rods being **** but for some reason I decided not to listen

Thing is are they right? Have I just bought a manufacturer defect rod? Or was it me trying to drag up a piece of kelp?

I have my tld with 50lb braid & set up with scales to slip at 40lb
I'm trying to convince my self the rod is fine. Got to be something else?

What do you all think?

Should I get it replaced or get my money refunded?

There does seem to be an awful lot of negative reports concerning poor craftsmanship of these rods. I have never owned one personally.
I have witnessed an SK3 XTR fall over from a gust of wind and almost all guides have snapped, it was a pretty innocuous fall if there is such a thing.

I think there is plenty of evidence to avoid them but it would be interesting to hear from any supporters of sonik

Decent budget rods available at equal to or better price than sonik

Far too many horror stories and witnessed a few of the soniks almost explode for me too buy one. The only positive ( depending on how you look at it) is they seem like a decent company for customer service, replacing rods with no questions asked.... Or maybe they don't ask as they know that at times the rods just ain't up to the job. Either way I'd go for a second hand rod from here before buying a new sonik.

Iv spoken to sonik about this Theyv had no reports of rods snapping!!!!!! & have said they'll replace no problem
But I'd be frightened to use one again seeing how easy this one snapped
Luckily I managed to borrow a rod otherwise I'd have wasted a full day

clean break

A mate bought a Sonik SK3 and it snapped first time out under no pressure. he got it replaced then it was OK. When I say Ok - awful to cast - no life in it. They are horrible rods in truth, I didn't realize until I got a decent rod the difference.

I've used the new sk4 xtr rods and have witnessed 2 out of the 4 we had snap 3 rings down and again just above the 5 ring down. The latter was lifting a dab weighing 2lb 3oz from then on we were frightened to lift anything over 3lb. These are £279 rods and when we had them were the 1st time they had been out of the original bags. Literally brand new. I personally wouldn't go near another sonik purely because of their reputation to snapping. I was considering the new boat rods but from this post I think I'll not bother.
Forgot to mention these were also clean breaks no splinters from the carbon nothing just clean break.
They also broke within 4 days of each other.

Be wise to forget the boat rods aswell.
I bought a abu7 for £25 new & it's a better rod any day than the sk3
I think they try to make them look pretty by slapping some nice blue metallic thread on which isn't the best whipping job made good by high build just to attract buyers attention

They're **** too mate I just broke mine in 2 above the reel seat. If I remember right Nicky snapped the same rod in the same place.

Tony, you can have a look at my Fladen Maxximus when you come to sort the fireplace. Great rods, only ever seen one snap and that had a geet big dolphin attached to the other end.

They're crap mate! My mates sk3 snapped just reeling in (not pulling through a snag either) Also after mentioning it to other anglers on my travels heard lots of similar stories of rods splitting, snapping..

I have one of the original sk4 and never had any problems with it had it from new and used it on rough ground st abbs etc and also mixed ground handle it no bother
