sonik sk3

the centre of the tip ring has gone on mine ???

that has happened three times on the two rods my sons have.myself i have a kompressor sport and not one bit of bother in 6 years anymore trouble with sonik and i think they will be saving up for a century rod

had a sonik sk 3 4-60z for over a year now.been blown over a couple of times.no smashed rings or damage.might just be lucky .its a great rod to cast and fish ,but its had some really bad reports.

There were some problems with the early sk3s, i think they used cheaper rings and they were snapping,

There are a load of older soniks that are fine,

The newer soniks are more improved and its just a few of the rods having a problem,

And personal preference,

Ive had my Kompressor sport for 10 years now and Ive never had any problems with it!!! It does generally get stored though for 11 months and then comes out for a mont or so, but Ive bashed it all over the place and its never let me down!!! Great rod!!

the new top section arrived yesterday only took 4 days to come pretty impresed the way deliveries have been so we should be out next week to give it a try

Snapped tips = User error/mistreatment.........I learned my lesson the hard way years ago and when I get a snag I pull it out by wrapping the line around my arm rather than yarking on like I see most folk doing.
The rods are designed to load evenly under pressure and when over stressed will fracture...its not rocket science as they are made out of carbon, graphite etc....not scaffolding pipes :-)

So what you are suggesting Stevie is only sonic users are guilty of User error/mistreatment.

And please dont come back with the reply because there are a huge number of sonic rods out there by law of averages there are going to be more breakages.

There are lots of Century/Zipplex/Conoflex rods out there and there are not as many breakages/user error/mistreatments or whatever you wish to call them reported.

they did not snap due to mistreatment they both snapped whilst casting out they both treat fishing with respect!!!!!!!!

Yourstruly-----did i mention Sonik?...I see people over stressing their rods on a regular basis and then the look of surprise on their fave when they snap..its not just sonik users.
If it is sonik snapping more than others then it would tend to lead to the thought that the blanks are flawed and should be sent back to the factory.

As for the two snapping whilst casting---that sounds like they do in fact have a flaw. Speak to Sonik and im sure they will sort it out. It only takes a small knock on a vulnerable part of the blank where it is loaded and hey presto a weak point and snapped tip. If your sons do look after their gear good on them as they arent cheap!..

i fished a local rough ground mark, i fished it loads of times with my sonik SK4, never once had a problem with it, i have rived fish through kelp and snags with it before any amount of times, easy job.

fished the same mark with a conoflex anubis plus, a more expensive and some might say better quality rod, better built etc, the tip section of the conoflex snapped.

any rod can snap no matter how much you pay for it.
i always pull snags out with the lines wrapped around my hand, easy to snap a rod and mangle a reels internals by pulling on it.

i swear by all the rods i use, got a few Soniks, a few old and new conoflex rods and a century rod, all are just as good as each other.

i have noticed that alot of rods seem to be alot thinner than they were a while back, i have a conoflex rod that is made of carbon and you could drive a car over it and it wont snap, it could pull the plug out of the sea lol

it has been through the wars and is still in mint condition.

the newer style rods, wether it be different material or process etc, seem to me that they could be prone to weaken if knocked in a bad way.

i could probs use my old conoflex to spear whales with and it would still be spot on ;D

the newer conoflex was a different story lol

Stevie, you did not mention sonik however as the post was about a snapped sonic sk3 i assumed your post was about the said subject.
A fair assumtion to make methinks!
My reply was not made so to offend anyone and if it has then let me appologise

Theres only one problem, not every one can afford a century or a zziplex,

Taste and budget and experience all come into play here,

But you allso get what you pay for , i payed 130 for my sokin sk3 14 ft, and i love it no problems yet
