I noticed quite a difference in the quality of the picture on my Lowrance sounder when out yesterday. It was sharper, showed fish better, and gave a much better picture of the bottom at speed. Could that be that there is a lot less bloom etc this time of year.

Yes you are right in thinking about the bloom

Aye , I was out today for a couple of hours and noticed the same , much less clutter on the screen than in the summer , nothing much in the water I guess , from plankton up to minke whales...... All gone

Only 4 small codling about a 1lb each, and 1 pouting. All returned bar 1 that was gut hooked.
When are you getting into the marina Chris?

Shortly i hope Arthur, its been 10 weeks since i applied, but there are only 2 people that do the police checks for the North East so it can take a while to get word back As long as i'm in there for early spring i'll be happy

I think you’re right about the algae clouding the sounder picture Arthur, the water was clear on Sunday. Some days the sounder picks up all sorts of muck and on others the water’s clear enough to see a lead as it lifts off the bottom.

Was that you, fishing by the can? It looked busy out there.

Even the lads that I fish with know the wreck off the can as "Arthur's wreck."
