South Shields beaches any good??

Can anyone tell me what the south shields beaches are like for flatties?

I fancy trying for dab, flounders and plaice, I was thinking about going up to druridge bay on Saturday morning, but could just give shields a bash if it’s any good. Or is there anywhere else better for flatties?

Also, whats the best bait? is mackerel any good for flatties, or crab? or should I just stick with ragworm?

I'm not totally certain but I think the beach does fish well mate. Someone will be able to give you a better insight but think I've seen a few people saying they have had from from there.

I dunno about the beeches mate but I've had flatties on anything and everything. I think they will eat owt.

I have fished the beach quite a few times Andy, you can get small flatties (pretty much mainly flounder) but if that's what your wanting to catch your better off with your first idea of druridge bay mate, loads more up there.

Small ragworm and small strips of mackerel will do you well, just hook the maccy once making sure the hook point is through the skin side so its clear of the flesh... I wouldn't bother with crab when fishing the beaches for flatties, wasting your money.

If you want to fish shields beach, try fishing off the sand close to the pier.. you will see the line of rocks that run parallel to the pier.... flatties seem to congregate along the rockline in very little water. fishing the flood is best and I have had plenty from here. Nothing of size though!

Fishes well for flats both at distance and in shorts best bait for them is blacks tipped with a thumb nail of makkie. Distance or short can pay off mate.

I went up to druridge bay in June, was one of my first fishing outings, and had no problem cathcing small flounders, I do fancy going back up there - maybe the flounder will be a bit bigger now, and everyone always says theres turbot there as well.

High tide is 6am on saturday though, so I'll have to be out early to fish the flood, shields beach is 5 mins drive, druridge is about 45 mins so if i just go to shields I'll have a bit more time (or won't have to get up as early!). If I go to shields I'll fish parallel to the pier, cheers for the advice.

I have had some big flounders from the middle of Shields big beach this summer and have beaten my personal best four times Use whole ragworm fished into the gulleys as the tide is coming in. I have had a small turbot too but no plaice.

Aye it's gonna be a early one Saturday like, I'm heading down the pier to get some mackerel for bait. Hopefully the weather is nice for it mate.
