South Shields Big Beach 15/03/13

I fancied getting out to try out the waders I got for christmas which as yet had not been in the sea. Conditions looked good for a beach somewhere and with low tide at 11.30pm last night I decided on a middle of the night session in Shields. I fished the north end of Sandhaven Beach from just after midnight until 4am this morning. Two hook flappers baited with lug and/or rag. First cast got my a small flounder then nothing for the next four hours until my very last cast where I caught a five bearded rockling. So not a very productive evening but a lovely night to be out with a clear sky, slight southerly breeze and a little bit of surf on. I saw a fox and a shooting star and am really pleased with my new neoprene chesties. Think I'll try the south end of the beach next time.

Yes mate canny warm though I had thermals on underneath wouldn't like to have worn them without thermals but maybe I'm just soft :) Made by Hardwear came from Fishtec I think though like I say they were a present.

I fish the beach quite often Mike and I find the south end best, basically anywhere from the sandancer pub to trow rocks. There's often a bit of a hole along there that you may be able to spot when it's a little rougher. Either 2 hours, either side of low tide into the above hole or fish 2 hours either side of high water anywhere along there. Nearly always coalies, flatties and the odd school bass about.

I often find just as the tides begins to ebb again at high you sometimes see a bit of action with flounders in the main, darkness is best but don't rule out daylight to Mike....it's just in daylight you get too many dog walkers and dogs doing dirty doo daas up your box, not too mention said dogs nicking your bait to. lol

Hope this helps, may see you down there soon.
