Got up at 04:00 got ready sorted my stuff out and headed for South Shields pier when I got there people were already fishing so I set up just before the 44 mark and baited up. The people both sides of me were bringing in mackerel and pollock just about every cast I wasn't having much luck for the first hour then I had a small dab. A pod of dolphins turned up and were jumping all over the place i got a quick video and was considering changing to a set of day lights and getting in on the mackerel action but I only had one rod with me and it ment i would have to stop bait fishing. I decided to stick with the bait and then my rod went I thought I had hooked into something decent and with a nice bend in my rod I lifted an unexpected dog fish over the wall. I was using a paternoster rig with two size 1 hooks penneled with sand eel for bait. I took a few pics for the species hunt then returned it.
