Does any one know if there is any overnight fishing allowed on S Shields pier?
I know the pier gets locked on a night time but is it allowed?
I am a responsible lad who woudnt do anything daft or dangerous and wouldnt do it in any sort of bad weather.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Legally there is no fishing on Shields pier at anytime (check the big sign on the gate :D) but like stated you can climb round easy enough, the fishing in my opinion tends to be better in Daylight than Dark on there ....

got to agree with andy but last year it seemed as thogh it was the other way round with more fish getting in the dark last year even though it was quite poor and more fish coming from in the river

i had a few good early hour/night sessio last year... didnt get anything at all during the days if i remember rightly... although the reason why i was fishing daft hours was it favoured the tides timing/size with the occasions the sea was lifted...

cheers for the info lads, was thinking about being there before the gates are locked leave in the morning hen they get unlocked, do you know if the pier gets checked and people told to move on?

yeah it does... the watchman comes and you have to leave the pier... but as soon as the gates are locked he shows a blind eye to people going back on.

Very reasonable for him to do this, as even when the gates are open fishing is supposed to be banned from the pier... however thats messing with traditions :D
