Its awalys great ctahcing a bass so well done but dont think the secret side of things stands anymore, every slopping beach with some white water in our area produces bass our days.

Mentioned it before 2 mates target bass in our area when the sea is not away enough for the cod and get them just about everytime out from just about every beach and some rock marks from Hendon upto Amble.

not strictly true - yes I would agree that most sandy beaches will produce Bass along these shores now but they are also appearing in other places...so I'd still say to keep the location quiet

My theory is that we are now seeing an increase in schoolies - in a couple of years these will be bigger then you'll probably see a lot more reports of larger Bass being caught

It's the same with a decent Cod mark - nobody wants to share a hot spot...

The whole "im not saying where we caught it" is a little paranoid if you ask me, i respect peoples opinions to keep things quiet as its there god given right.
The consensus that commercial fishermen scour through threads looking for info regarding recent catches is utter garbage.

The abruptness of this thread is down to giving up smoking 3 weeks ago and my tolerence levels are zero lol, hope i didnt offend anyone.

To be honest I don\'t really care about the location, the conditions in which I caught it were \"textbook\" so anybody can apply those rules and probably catch one - I was merely playing up to the \"norm\" in these situations - at the end of the day it was a half pound schoolie which went back so no great shakes on that scale

The main point of the thread was that I caught something sparkly and shiney and that even at such a small size it nearly took the rod off its stand and made me want to target its older brother/sister

Blyth Beach - somewhere between the Pier and Seaton Sluice, the holes change all the time - happy fishing LOL

I had a 2lb bass at the middle toilets on Blyth beach last night, it was also returned to grow bigger even though it was over minimum size.

Cambois beach used to be excellent for them when the hotpipe was there.
Most of those fish were schoolies also, with the odd one to around 5lb.
Never heard of many over 5lb.

They used to stay around the hot water until the power station shut down.
They then started to migrate further and started getting caught from Blyth beach etc.

Must admit, the one I got last night is my first ever from Blyth beach so was a nice suprise, had hundreds of them from Cambois, but that is what I used to target until the power station closed.

Luck of the draw really, these are schoolie shoals on the move up and down are coastline, but nice to see them, and return the smaller ones, good sporting fish eh! as for netting, well I dont see many boats in the surf where these fish like to feed

found a couple of me dad's old bass photos, all off cambois beach / hot pipe. best to 7lb. also one of the old power station, taken from the hot water pipe, neither of which are there, nor are the bass....

he had a number of good stamp bass from there, plus mullet . all circa mid eighties.

my best bass a lot smaller at 2.5lb. as for wallsendo initially not wanting to give the location away, that's fair enough, nothing worse than turning up at a mark only to find 20 other people crowded onto "your spot", however, catching one small schoolie doesn't exactly make it a hot spot does it?

Hot pipe was great, I'll have to hunt for my photo's, had bass to 7.5lb and a mullet of 5lb off there. Saw others hook sea trout and bream off there some years.

Great photos, I used to work with your Dad at Glaxo and used to go boat fishing with him in the early 80's, mainly from Berwick and Amble, and occasionally off the Tyne. We had some huge catches back in those days, and nine times out of ten he would leave the boat with the sweep money in his pocket. He was a tremendous fisherman, both on the boat, and from the shore.
