Hi lads am looking to get some spinning gear bought , just wondering what's the best rod and reel combo for the job . Cheers Liam

just bought a savage gear salt spinning rod 40 quid from glasgow angling. excellent rod to use. handled some good pollock last weekend at isle of whithorn. also got a mitchell avocet salt 4000 reel. looks great but arrived to late to take with me cost me 30 off ebay.

Depends how much your going to blow on it mate.

Rod less than £70 a savage gear bushwhacker can't be beat. Mines been bounced pillar to post and still champion. Lots of different casting weights available as well. North east tackle have some in store.

Your welcome mate. Make sure you think about the lures your wanting to use. And imo anything under 8ft is too short. I use my mk1 bushy for float fishing now as I bought a lighter 9ft rod. suits me well with a 3000 Diawa reel on it.

Never bother much in summer just love dragging cod through kelp beds in the winter ah ha . So this is new to me , so as of weights am not clued up al get the length you say but lures am lost , just be trying for pollock , and what ever else is there .

I second the recommendation for a Savegegear Bushwacker. Cracking rods. Well made and come in a few different casting weights and lengths depending on what your looking to do with it. I know of several double figure pollock taken on them up in the borders mate.

You can't generally go wrong with shimano fixed spools ;)

Cheers Julio m8 that's the rod am going to get minds made in 9 foot . Just need to think about what weight , pared up with a small penn or shimano reel .

Cheers Julio m8 that's the rod am after defo . Is the 8.6 foot 30-80g to heavy

I was the same as you with cod fishing till I got into the light gear.

As to your rod weight it's down to personal preference. My best pollock so far was on a 23g savage gear sandeel. Those things are lethal. Had fish leaping from the water for them last year. I don't fish any lures over 30g. You'll be surprised how far a spinner will go in that weight range.

So that there will cast upto 40g at its max distance , will this rod land most stamp fish that al come across with no bother .

I've got the 8ft 15-40g version mate. Works really well for all of the lures I use. There are cheaper rods that will do a job and more expensive better rods but at this price you won't find anything better in my opinion. Got a 3000 size shimano on mine and braid. Lovely set up ;)

Don't worry about the rod handling the fish mate. Mind we use a telescopic net to get the big fish out the water.

What's the next length and weight down from that one? I reckon that might not bend much with the lighter lures.

Does your savage gear bushwhacker road have Fuji reel seat my rod has came and seems like a toy rod and pics of your would be appreciated lads .
