Alright lads gonna get meself a new spinning set up do a but float fishing over the next few weeks, not sure what to get wondering if someone can suggest a decent setup cheers

There's a fair bit about rods in the lure section mate. It Depends what you want to spend. I've not long bought a savage gear bushwhacker and I love it.

I recently got an 8ft, 20-60g Shimano Vengeance, from Fishing Megastore. Only £33 but it's a really good quality rod.

There's lighter casting versions as well

I paired it with a Penn Fierce 4000, paid about £60-£70 but a really nice reel; I put 30lb spectra braid on the reel and was going to put a 3ft fluorocarbon leader on for spinning but at the minute it's got a 9ft mono leader on for float fishing with it.

I change my rods regularly! But I think I'll be sticking with this set up for a while.

Does your leader not restrict what depth you fish at when float fishing? I never use a leader when using a float for this reason as surely the knot and tag ends will act as a fixed stop knot unless you are fishing no deeper than say 10ft

It was just for using on the pier. I have my float rigs already made up, so I slide the float onto the leader, then attach the rest of the rig, which is about 3foot long, so can fish to a depth up to 12ft, which was enough for the pier.

Cheers lads them vengeance's look nice for the price think I'll invest, I'll have a look at them reels now

You can get a combo deal at fishing megastore, with an Okuma Trio for an extra £35, canny deal.

Ahh cheers for pointing that out mate I think I'll go for that! Sorry to blag ya head with questions but what size rod n reel would ya recommend? I'll be mainly using it for float fishing and red gills with the occasional spin for the macky

I'm no expert mate, it's my first proper spinning set up. I went for the 8' instead of the 7' just for a bit extra casting distance, and went with the 20-60g, so I can use upto 60g spinners, and i use 1oz weights on my float set up.

I think a lot of the lads that do lots of lure fishing, go with lighter weights, like 10-40g, but I'm sure I could still use 10g on the 20-60, just a bit less sensitive though.

Thanks for all your help mate lead me to the right place can't wait to order one it looks a beaut, I'm sure someone on here will be able to help me as to what size to get. Btw mate that wasn't you fishing today up by the 45 mark was it?

No bother mate and thanks again for the advice I'm sure I'll see ya up the blocks pollock hunting over the summer

Agree with Andy... The okuma trio is well worth the extra £30. If you have enough cash then the savage gear bushwacker rod and okuma reel is a very nice set up which won't break the bank

I use both a 8ft and a 9ft rod. Between 10/28/50g. That size and casting weight will cover pretty much all of the lure fishing you will do in the north east mate. A bog standard 9ft 28-50g rod will manage anything you want including the float fishing

Cheers mate I think I'll get one of each cause I've gotta get one for the fatha (I get the bushwacker haha), what size reel should I get matey?

Ive got the 8ft 15-50 g bushy which is a great rod. If you are going to be using the rod for float fishing aswell I would get a 9ft 20-60 g rod. I had a abu devil 9ft and it was good for float fishing aswell :)

Mine is the 8ft 10/40g one. I've float fished with it and had loads of fun. I bought it to throw plugs and soft plastics. It still chucks a 40g zenith a good way as well.

Cheers for the advice lads am gonna get the shimano vengeance 8ft 20-60g and the okuma trio 40s. If I didn't have to buy 2 I would've went with the bushy but after checking me bank balance I must've went a bit OTT at the weekend haha
