anyone know where i can get some decent sized squid, local fish bloke only has the boxed calamari, prefer locations around newcastle if possible

try frank round fish merchant on the north shields fish quay- he will be able to help you out,his strapline for his business is \"if it swims we sell it\" - well i asked him once for blue whale when i was head chef in a Newcastle Hotel - didnt have any in stock was the answer ,but Graham pickup is the fella to ask for he is a smashing bloke- and NO this isnt a free ADVERT for \"FRANK ROUND FRESH FISH\" as i am no longer in the trade and dont buy fish- dont catch any either mind you.LOL :P :P :P

Your right fishaman- its not bad gear - but value for money is getting a big squid that not many restaurants/hotels would order, and the flesh is quarter inch thick, then you can cut it up into 5\" lengths -brilliant for keeping your bait (crab/mussel etc)on pennel rigs and lasts that bit longer when the thieving whiting and crabs are about ;)

its the big stuff im after lads ,4-5\" squid doesnt go very far ,half the time its not worth cutting up,the stuff i used to get you could fish on the tenticles for a week but hes not had none for a while, these boys where about 12\"+ at £2:50 per Lb and lasted a few sessions, ill try franks at shields ,is that the place on the left heading in from the toon ?or am i in the wrong area

Drive down the Coast rd Then as you hit (not littelery) the big roundabout at the bottom you want the third exit ,,, down to another Rbout stay left drive through the lights to the next set ,,, you should have the Gunner pub to youf left ,infront of you,, hang a right at the lights straight over the lump of chewing someons left on the road and down to the lights... you should have The Queens on left & The Old hundred on your right ... Through the middle,, turn left second right follow the road round ,so you come almost back on your self,, you should pass a few old grey buildings,,, you will hit a junction ,turn left and follow that road approx 800mtr you should then turn right down a canny steep bank ,,,, congrats , your on yhe Quay side.... If not and You find you are in Glasgow dont blame me,,, :P

lol i know where the quay side is,its the location of franks i was asking about ,theres a place sells peelers on the right 60p each but didnt catch the name ,theres also a place on the left but i tend not to look up when on the road so as aformentioned i didnt catch the name ;)

go as far along as you can towards tynemouth the quay swings round on itself and there is a slipway into the tyne(i think) it might be where you were fishing the other week- if you can see South Shields Groyne.and The Littlhaven on the diaginal and the walkway is just about opposite with nothing else in the way your in the right area

i might get chastised for saying this but a well kept secret amongst fisherman who use squid is to go to chinatown in newcastle [ stowell st ] they sell the 1lb boxes of squid in the chinese supermarket much cheaper than you will find any were else that i can promise you,,been going there for years now ,,normally stock up for the boat season and for winter,,,,now ssshh dont tell any 1 lol
