mate, i reckon they probably lost loads of gear and were jealous.
fishing =right bait at the right time in the right place full stop, dosnt matter what its tied to aslong as it retrieves.
therell be a day when your gear lands you in that sweet spot while others are casting way too far.
ive been pulling em in on a couple of 2nd hand abu6000, a £25 brand new 15ft carbocast and a second hand 12ft mitchell dominator.
cost total was about 30 a reel and 25 a rod. im more than happy with them, i remember 1 day at blyth pier everyone coming off as i went on, all complaining and blanking, i had 2 fish within 20 mins.
same at amble, the whole jetty blanked and my junk pulled in 2 codling, a rockling and a few whiting.
ignore em mate, probs all the gear and no idea!

also to add. there have been times i have caught nowt and my old man has pulled fish in on a fixed spool and rod from boys at under 50 the pair.

yeah will take eddies advice and use shock leaders and try again in the new year as the kids are off for two weeks unable to get out once there back to school will be there. whats the best bait to buy for fishing the slabs as i bought 2 squid, 4 mussel, 4 razzor, 1 blues, 8 packets live lug ran out of lug so went back and got another 6 for 3 nights fishing

i only fished there once with squid, macky and rag.
i only got one fish on rag but lug would have been my choice if i could have got any. best to fish with whats in season. seems to be lug atm

You'l get get fish with any of them baits but every day is different there are no guarantees when it comes to fishing

You have just about got everything their mate apart from peeler crab - its just about hitting the right conditions on the right day at the right time at the right place - however, most important is the bait presentation - watch the others around you, observe and ask - First thing I ask is owt doing - on what bait. Probs catch up with you in the new year as I will be away from fishing for a short spell myself. In the meantime Tight lines and be safe.
