Early start and got down to the pier for 6. Plenty of lads already out fishing, mainly for mackerel. Had a wander up to the end with my old man... Set up, cast out and he hits a maccy on the drop... Sod's law! I wandered off to try a set of teaser lures at the wheel, cast it out and bang... Lure rod goes over... Eventually pop three fat maccy to the surface. Not wanting to put too much strain on the gear I walked them around to the steps. Popped em all onto dry land only for te hooks to bloody drop out of two of the fish! They wiggled there way back down the steps and Into the water making good their escape!! :mad2: anyway, first maccy of the year still for the pot! Again fished seaward side close to the blocks spinning. Spent an hour or so with only a 40cm (ish) coalie to show for it and a codling on a zenith spinner! Had one hell of a take from a big fish which dove into the side of the pier snagging me up. Could feel it banging away and no matter what I did I couldn't free it. Was no doubt a PB pollock for me lost.... I wasn't having much more luck so packed up to come home. My dad had a few more maccy and is a converted lure fisherman now! Only saw one other mackerel caught in the time we were there , couple of launce and a few colies. Nice day to blast away the cobwebs... Won't bother with pics as everyone knows what a maccy looks like!

Good early session mate. Changed my mind about going out after work when the wind started getting up, not the best for float fishing :(. Nice to take a few fish home anyway, shame you didn't get a pic of your mackerel as I've no idea what one looks like :D

Nee maccy yet mate? Won't be long I'm sure! Yeah that wind got up and I figured you would skip a trip out... Not very helpful to good float fishing!

Yeah I know mike... Was foaming for about an hour after loosing it haha... It's even worse when you can still feel it banging away with no hope of getting it back... That's why it's called fishing and not catching I guess!

I lost a big one in that exact same spot last summer. I was using Berkley Nanofil for the first time and I got the fish to the side but the line snapped as I started lifting it up the wall. I will never use that stuff again! Braid all the way now.

I had braid on mike but I always use a clear short leader that's mono... It was the mono that snapped eventually...
