your the fool mate if yer think that was a big northy. A lot of very experienced anglers were on there yesterday and it was just another day at the office really:D

So if all them experienced anglers jumped in would you follow them? So it wasn't coming over tynmouth pier?? Yes it was, it was dangerous on the pier try and justify it as much as you want to yourself. Hope you realise that when you go on that pier or any other pier when the gates are closed, if the worst was to happen any insurance you have is null and void. So people will leave there family with any financial debt and the heartache of the death all because there was some well experienced anglers fishing the pier!!

I guess that all of us on there must of been totally incapable of judging wether it was safe or not! Maybe next time I go fishing I'll put a post up asking if its ok to go out.

You made a statement saying 99% of the times there was nothing coming over, it only needs one wave on a big tide especially, personally I don't care if you want to risk your life. However posting pictures to say you were on a closed pier is not a good thing. I mean if they ban fishing where will the handful of tossers who think they own the pier fish then?

I think all this has blown out of proportion as usual. Standing on the rock edges in a big sea, like we all do is just the same, if not more dodgey. Not wanting no handbags here either.

Yeah...just nice to see a catch report :D
I think experience is important here when making this judgement – know your marks.

I had been there, I would have stayed well away as I very rarely fish SSP so can’t judge it. On the other hand, take a pier like the Heugh where I am resident and been fishing since I was a very young lad. I can fish that in a sea most would turn away from due to knowledge of the pier – where it breaks over first depending on wind, time, swell etc.

Can see what Phil is saying but see it from the other side too where some people are H&S nutters and if theres a ripple in the water means its too dangerous. A bit dangerous this time but not reckless I’d say going off the pictures

Not bothered what people fish in but posting reports of fishing shields pier when the gates are closed is giving fuel to ban fishing there!! I have fished in much bigger seas

Agree there, we've all fished somewhere we shouldn't and it doesn't really bother me where anyone decides to chuck a line but give the anti-fishing mob a chance to close a pier to anglers they will and there will be one less place to fish, and for kids to cut their teeth!

Roll on the spring sunshine so we can start arguing about important things like is it a Plaice or a Flounder (or a 3b Rockling ;) )

2p worth.think more like 2bobs worth.at the end of the day, yous were in the wrong.just thought it was ott, putting the pictures on forum.

As the sign says as you enter through the gates, "no fishing". Surely it doesn't matter if the gates are open or shut, if they want to ban anglers all they have to do is show it is regularly used as a fishing venue and that's it done. Doesn't matter if there is a sea running or whatever.

No they need proof that the the venue is unsafe, dangerous or something along them lines. So people posting pictures of them fishing the pier when the gates are shut and waves are coming over, is giving them fuel
