Got to South Shields pier about 8.20pm and set up opposite the rubble fishing the seaward side. One rod with bait (ragworm) and a spinning rod. First cast I caught a mackerel on the spinner while I missed some good knocks on the bait rod due to being too busy spinning lol. Second cast hooked another fish on the spinner, not a mackerel, only for it to fall off as I got it to the wall but it looked like it may have been a coley. Then the bait rod produced a small flounder. After that it went quiet with nothing for an hour or two up to high water and beyond so I packed up and moved to the Walkway.
I cast out the bait rod and set up the spinning rod with a small weight and hook fishing it close in with bits of ragworm for the tiddlers. It was non stop action on both rods with knocks every 30 seconds or so and lots of fish on both rods. That's more like it! I lost count how many but I had quite a few dabs and tommies on the big rod and some small coalies, tommies and a flounder on the small rod. I lost a good fish on the retrieve on the big rod after I had got it in to about ten yards. A codling nothing massive but a reasonable size maybe a couple of pound. It was on a size 6 hook that I had put out hoping to get a rockling so I wasn't surprised it didn't stay on. I packed in about 2am when I ran out of bait.
