We decided to try one of the areas at the Head that is tucked away underneath the lighthouse. It's a long way down a pretty steep cliff and at first, second and even third glances looks like an impossible place to access, a word of caution, don't try fishing here in the wet.
The fishing here is normally for quality fish, not big quantities.
We arrived at low tide and decided to floatfish for wrasse with peeler crab as bait, a few baits in the water and a few fish were soon out of the water.
Wrasse 2lb 5 ounce
Wrasse 2lb 10 ounce
Wrasse and personal best, at 3lb 10 ounces for Baza who made the effort up from Hartlepool, well done mate.
A good one for me at 3lb 6 ounces and my best of the day.
More wrasse and some clonking bites later, we decided to change tactics and target pollack.
After changing tactics, my pal Darren who was lagging behind at this point, saved the best until last, first with a nice 3lb 6 ounce cod, caught on a luminous green redgill.
Then a lovely pollack, not 100 percent sure of the weight because at this point my scales decided to pack up, a nice one anyway, four pound or a bit over I think.
Not a bad day and finally after the poor winters fishing we have had in the North East, summer is beginning to throw out some fish.
An enjoyable day, J.V.
