cheers for that jim,is it safe if its abit rough i wudnt want to get stuck ha ha,thanks for the link i think the point whats on right of lighthouse looks good like

hey, there are a few good marks around st marys, my favourite being crispins gulley. if you go to the lighthouse and walk down the stairs near the cottages and walk to the edge of the rocks on the left and this is where it is, great through all seasons, summer for red cod(best results have been on a float with mackeral strip or sandeel. i have also had good catches of mackeral and pollock on the high tide. during the winter however after a big storm fishing crispins gulley on a rising tide has produced cod with crab, lug razor and the usual cod baits being best. expect to lose gear so rotten bottoms or other weak link rigs are advisable, however i am planning on trying floating at st marys in the winter to see if any cod will take. also hartley is worth a try for cod, down the stairs that go down the cliff along the lighthouse tracks. walk along the skeer on a low tide and fish it a couple hours down couple hours up also just at the bottom of the stairs on the high tide casting from the little beach can produce some nice flatties, hope this helps, i have spent many days during the summer but not so many in the winter fishing st marys and surrounding area and it is one of my favourite spots and rarely gets crouded. merry christmas:)

no problem il give ya a shout if im goin and keep u updated on any catches if any! havnt had a great season so far only had a couple and some decent coalies. good luck lol

st marys island whitley bay - Google Maps

Remember access is via a causeway that is covered for 4+ hours during high water, park in the car park opposite the island (pay & display & the council wardens are sh@t hot) and walk over. Alternativley drive past the entrance to the island & head into old hartley car park and down the cliffs to fish harlley skeer. Good luck

If fishing st marys you have to expect to loose some gear, fish with rotten bottems/weak links. Cast into the gulleys, they are deep even at low water but make sure you know the tide times otherwise you will get cut off.

as steve says above, the ground is tackle hungry, but if you prepare for it, you can pick up some decent fish.
water is nice and deep.

parking tickets are £25, i was stung with one a few months ago.

lol gone up by a fiver then from the last time my dad got one droppin me off fishing and helping me haul sum gear across the rocks! im local to this area so normaly walk or get a quik lift down, shame about the pay parking as there are free car parks on whitley sea front, shame they dont make st mary's free, there are always pleanty of spaces.

It always used to be free during off season months but only after either 7 or 8 oclock, too much of a cash cow to stop charging. That said mind, I used to wonder if they brought it in to discourage the boy racers that are always in there. At least if the warden comes in they have to either leave or buy a ticket.

Jim.

its free after a certain time at night.
im sure the ticket was for £50, but if you paid it within so many days, it went down to half price, bargain in the credit crunch! lol
all that because i was 50p short during an open. i forgot about the machine, warden must have logged the time and came back after it had ran out :(

wont happen again lol

id just park on the main drag and walk round,i couldnt afford to pay £25 on top of getting bait etc, there having a laugh haha, wots the sea like for tmora, cos if its flat im gonna go pikefishing up bowlam lake, anyone know?

yeah after 8 was always free so on the warm flat summers nights we (me and my dad) would go spinning untill dark, this was often when we got some of the better fish, spinning black jellyworms with a red or pink tail seem to do the trick and again thats fishing crispins gulley on the low tide.
