bloody hell no need to snap lyk! we were both only saying as im a marine conservation advisor just thought you would prefer to know. ( pectoral fin is to short for a whiting)

think the marine conservation advisor should reapply for his job, definatly a whiting, coalies are darker hence the name coalfish, not to mention they hav a sraight lateral line :p

Does it really that much what it is,the Lad has caught a fish and took the time to post a report with a picture and then he is slated for it Why:confused:
Well done on catching a fish mate, some very good anglers blanking at the moment, cheers for report

i totally agree with penn525magextra. you can clearly see that it is a whiting, coalies are alot darker in there colouration. plus look at the mouth, a coalies is slightly upturned like a pollock, the fish in that picture does not show that;)

Defo a sink, here's a similar one:

You can even see the strainer plug that stops bits going down and blocking the u-bend.

:D

I'd just like to know if that's a carrier bag or a swing-bin liner in the top of the pic. We've been getting our swing bin liners from Aldi and they're rubbish for splitting at the least thing, anyone recommend a decent place to get some stronger ones (which bait and rigs to use of course would help).

Hi all i'm head ov the marine conservation fish ID biology seacreature services and upon looking at the pic in question i noticed it was a bit blurry,so i put on my 3D glasses and 2 my surprise u can clearly see its a whiting..

as i aint been over this side for long, only a couple years i can only comment on the systems used in the mersey, sanis towelus or the blob fish can be taken on paternoster rigs, various baits work, durexius rubberus or the mersey goldfish is better on a long trace, however occasionally you get a real lunker, shopingli trollyius, or the wire cage fish, these can be taken usually on the retrieve however bagiusforlifeiti gives one hell of a fight on light tackle especially in a flowing tide
