steetly today

Me and mick dunn fished Steetly today. Initially i was suprised with the amount of numpties around, there were people feathering for mackerel (except the mackerel left ages ago) and generally being pains by constantly crossing lines.

We used rag mackerel and squid baits. I finished with 11 fish (flatties and small coleys) which was more than everyone else on the pier put together i think. The best one was a plaice which mick said measured 43 cms. Poor mick despite using exactly the same baits only had one fish all day a weaver!!

Still i think we made a couple of kids days for them. They were using massive hooks and huge chunks of mackerel and generally waisting there time. We gave them a hand set them up with some size 6 hooks and small pieces of rag then told them to drop down the side. Both of them then caught a couple of small coleys. Think it was their first ever fishes!

Aye Ian you kicked my ass today on the old fishing.11-1

But i was over the moon to get a weaver cos it meant i did not blank.

Beachlover you would have ABSOLUTLEY HATED it on the pier today. Everything which a beach fishing angler loves was not there.

I think we might get another season but the old pier is looking very tired. The end of the pier is a tragedy waiting to happen.

One lassie today was letting a young girl aged about 4-5 run up and down from side to side behind us. Me and Ian were discussing who would go in if the kid fell through the hole in the wood.

I kept wishing it was raining, cold and a stiff NE breeze blowing.
Still thats fishing on a Sunday noon in nice weather.

Now how to get to Seaham in Jan.

welldone lads on the fish ,shame you carnt put nothing secure enough over the holes ,but out metal the scrappers will have it on the wagon asap

ive seen the hole mate ,i remember i had a pic off other year ,the lads dropped the old section back in but wasnt fitted as it came out but secure ,but some wooden pallets may be ok for the time being as the scrappers wont take wood lol ,but i can see someone going down there soon

You're right there mate, I'd rather be in the house cleaning the oven than fishing on a crowded pier lol.

Not be too long before I have a session out myself, it'll be a beach though unless someone can convince me that rocks are worth a shot. I could be converted to rock fishing but not to crowded piers.

it,s a shame the pier is in such disrepair,i used to love fishing there, the idiots have managed to rip all the boards up on the north and south platforms [ i remember when there was seats on them ,long gone ]the hole at the end is a accident waiting to happen, and all the metal railings wich went right round the pier have vanished , still on its day in the middle of winter when there is only real anglers fishing, and the fish come on, it,s one of the best cod marks in the north east,if not the country.

Beachlover read on one of the posts Whitby is canny. You drive to the cliff and park up. Fish from them out onto slate beds. One day me you and Ian will have a look up. Or we could try Sandsend beach. I really enjoyed it off there. Fished a police compo last year. It was really good. Big full moon and SPACE. And no numpties.

Mick.
