Well since the weather looks shocking for the weekend and the urge to fish, i talked myself into going fishing straight from a 10hour nightshift and also Talked Big Sid away from tempting carp out the ponds.

Down the marina by 6.50am and happy to see the lock was on free flow so we had line sin the water by 7.10am. The sea was not great with a lazy roll and bit chop but the sun blazing through the cloud made it feel liek a summers day again.

It was always planned to fish for only 4-5hrs tops and the hope was a couple of mackerel and a couple of cod each to take home.

My word it was good fishing, into cod on the pirk from the off and followed by Big Sid with a 3 codling hook up for a total of about 11lb. This continued for 2 hours and after we had a 12 keepers in the hold we had our fill so started chucking them back.

When the tide dropped we hit into a mix of coalie and mackerel with some very nice coalie but most small. We decided to go further off and try so other wrecks, the wind was blowing and it was tide with wind making the drift 2.2k so never expected a great deal but we hit into 2 nice ling of 7lb and a couple of 4lb codling and a big shoal of mackerel.

After a good 4 hours work we headed for home and had about 60+ gulls feeding on what seemed to be a never ending trail of fish gutts being chucked over board.

I left my camera at home but Big Sid maybe able to add a few later on.

So total catch for the boat...

40+ mackerel
80+ coalie
20 codling
2 ling
10+ pouting
1 whiting
1 gurnard
1 dab

My catch..

10 codling upto 4lb
2 ling upto 7lb
7 mackerel
43 coalie
1 whiting
1 dab
1 gurnard
7 pouting

10 more hours to go until bed :( but worth it.

Glad you had a succesful trip Richy. After only a few hours sleep following a 10 hour shift would be awful if you had blanked. Saying that it always feels good to get out anyway.

Fish are still there waiting for me :D

Jonny:)

Just got back after going straight from nightshift again. Had hoped to get until mid afternoon but not to be, heading up the river it was clear the fishing would not be easy with waves rolling down the piers..headed out anyway and hit fish straight away over a sand bank, first a codling on crab then coalie and gurnard then more codling.

Never made if further than 200 yards from the piers and it was shocking weather with a sea building very quick. Still landed a canny few fish for a grand total of 50mins fishing with 4 keepers all 3-4lb.

Wont be out until next weekend, that is if we can have a weekend in June with out a north or east wind blowing a hoolie.
