First fishing trip of the year and boy the night before i could not sleep, like being a kid again. I had told myself that a good day would be everything ok on the boat and any fish a bonus.

Down the marina at 8am and after a good check of the boat and fixed the gps (bent pin in the back) it was time to get out so myself, Tonynufc and my cousin on his first trip in ver 2 years set off and what a treat sea was flat and sun was out.

We tried a few inshore marks but no bites at all so headed to some 4 then 6 mile wrecks 5 tried in total but all resulted in a blank.

So we tried a few rough ground marks and after 4 hours we hit 2 codling straight after each other, not massive 1.5 to 2lb but better than nothing, Tony taken the first then my Cous Dave the 2nd.....drifted around many spots but no more fish

Headed in at 3pm and i kept with my tradition and blank on the first trip of the season but guess never wanted to spoil a 11 year tradtion and after all it was a great day to be at sea and nice to see the old faces again.

cheers for another cracking day rich, just a shame the fish weren't playing out but the weather made it worth being out there. it was strange how it was really warm 5 miles out but once we moved closer in it went quite cold

here's a few of my pics.

Nice to see the Stingray reports starting again. Saturday afternoons have been a bit boring the last few months and the football is certainly not cheering me up.

Loooking forward to some great reports this year

Jonny :)

Good report Richy, so, the tradition carries on till at least next year:D, but at least the boat didn't blank. Pleased you've saved the cost of a new plotter. Looking at your pics, it does look like a better day further offshore. When's your next trip, only it looks a bit breezy for at least till mid week:(

Nice pic’s Ritchie; it looks like a perfect day to be afloat - and not sitting in a garage waiting for an MOT :( Today’s reports are very consistent, lots of effort, little in the way of a fishy reward so a catch of any kind is doing well. The first few trips of the season are always a bit of a shake-down, getting the boat fettled and back into the routine of things, checking everything works after winter, including the GPS.

Cheers lads, yer it was hard but it was flat sea, sunny and great drift so i had a really good time even thou i never had a bite all day.

This week marked the first trip of many from now on its 1 a week then 2 or 3 per week until mid Oct, i ihave said it all winter.....half of what we got last year will do me this year.

Roll onthe start of the mackerel so we can all say summer boating fishing is really here.

Once again great to see a few of you out there and a couple of new faces, Lazy days and Geordie Boys put fishing.

Until next weekend sea willing.

Yer Graham it has started, mid week weather watch and weekend trips..its great :)

Still 3-4 weeks until it starts proper so to speak but with a day like yesterday no fish still makes for a nice day out.
